On the table beside me lies a bracelet
made of plastic
with my name and social security number
neatly printed and a barcode
I have only just cut it off my hand
With a scissors

last years .
Half finished crossword puzzles, Sudoku,
a broken biro,
Linoleum floors
nondescript pieces of lithography on the walls,
a tray with a thermos of coffee and no cups,
2 empty tables with chairs around.
An office with window panes
Please knock
A talkative drunk
With a heart condition
A pill that weighs heavy
Not much sleep
But time to feel
that there is someone
Someone who cares
In a very professional fashion
Time to feel
That I am not alone
Time to talk
About worries,
blues
Space
Space between thoughts
A good meal
Sounds of footsteps
Doors opening and closing
Otherwise silence
Cold outside
smoking a fag
Snow
Cigarette butts on the ground
Locked doors

I commend you on getting through tough times Pia, and if you're still going through them, I'm sure you'll be just fine.
I've been enjoying your work recently, this is a very provocative piece though. Something which I haven't seen from you.
Just shows how talented you are.

Here’s a slogan to help pull you through: No resistance No aggression
No violence.
Whatever you do for god’s sake don’t stop the pills. The doctor is always right remember that. They have to let you go sooner or later the government needs the beds. Just keep a cool cerebellum.
fatboy74 | November 22, 2010 - 14:19
Something about the way you use words so sparingly that makes this quite haunting. A real and emotional read - very well done Pia and congrats on cherries. :-)
Highhat | November 22, 2010 - 15:31
Thanks Jenn- sweet of you
;)Pia
Highhat | November 22, 2010 - 15:35
Thanks Nolan- no none of that- a fair enough conversation with the staff and the doctor. I left the next day and no I won't stop the little medication I have. Keeps psykoses away and apples don't really help that much in this situation. Thank you for your concern- really is very kind of you. Will be meeting a psychiatrist soon. Am trying to avoid relapses.
cheers

Thanks fatboy- much appreciated- you have quite a way with words yourself ;)

Apologies Pia. Admittedly, I’m a bit disappointed. I was hoping you'd liven up the place around here.
Keep well take it easy! Nolan

Pia - there is nothing more for me to add, except to say I admire your courage. You write from the heart. A rare talent indeed.
Tina;-)

Highhat | November 22, 2010 - 18:33
Hi Tina- I was just wondering if it was all a bit much writing so honestly- I will keep wondering and writing ;)

This is a more then a well-earned Cherry, very honest. I love how each stanza flows into the next and the detached feeling of the speaker. Very moving!

Thanks a lot Blighters ;)

I thought it was a very vivid snapshot, a short story in poem form, although the language wasn't as complicated as in some of your other poems. I really could visualize the place.
I also liked the way you list objects and things you see; like your summing up the night and it conveys a sense of how empty the night is, perhaps.

I also like the line
"Space between thoughts"
both because it mirrors the form of the poem on the page (the spaces between stanzas) and because it seems to represent the relationship between your surroundings and your thoughts or perhaps, the relationship between internal and external emptiness.
I may be reading too much into it or perhaps misinterpreting it but I do think its a good poem;
a slice of life.
Highhat | January 13, 2011 - 23:20
Well-wisher,
I think it is a good thing that you can analyse a poem so well. Thank you for excerting yourself in my case. I'm glad I got through to you as well
