I’d like to paint a picture
Preferably of beauty
But what comes in to mind
Is pathos and suffering
I could paint an ugly picture
To make you feel
Feel
That all is not well
And not at all beautiful
But I will just leave
You with the feeling
And the awareness
That all is not as it should be
Maybe it never will be
And we will suffer
Surrounded by beauty
A paradoxical state
You may see beauty
While I am looking at suffering
Open mouths
Cries
Tears
Bloated bellies
And mourning Mothers
Questioning fate
Dependant on the beauty of the world
In caring souls
And loving people
And tireless charities
We can see the beauty of the future
And this will help
Relieve the suffering
And save the dying
And save the world
But we still must feel
I think I will paint a picture
For the victims
A picture of beauty
Of hope
And kindness
And good will
Because that is how we must feel
To be able to make the painting
Beautiful

Your poem it makes me think of those many starving people in the news right now in Africa; the world is faced with many questions but there are few answers to the planets over population. The pressures put upon supply and demand even without natural disasters we can’t farm enough to feed the populous we have around us now. There’s much beauty in the world but the world is evolving it’s been going through one of its quietest periods allowing us to emerge unequaled… Polar ice is now melting and oceans are dying starved of oxygen; but these things have all happen before it’s written in the ice cores that world has its own cycles. The world is truly beautiful its history has been destructive driving evolution forwards... There is a lot of money to be made out of greenhouse gasses guilt etc. It then makes great sense to pass that guilt around the world on to us..? Good poem :)

Really enjoyed this well expressed
poem, on suffering in this poem, sad
but you have painted the picture of it all,
maybe this could be forewarded make money, for
the poor children that have nothing, water food
strength, medication, love and dedication struggle
to survive. Always someone worse off somewhere?
I love the title, say's all. But of course doing of
every living person, think and give what they haven't
in comparison. We and many suffering and will cutbacks, but not as drastic as this is it. You have put it all in a nut shell as we say, feel the emotions, and watched t.v. leaflets and shops advertising, some in streets. Like I once did "Save the children fund, when able one day collected, and knitted toys or took thimngs shops. Or small donation.
julie xx have a good day. Can you paint? I can't.
I feel this is a winner cherries, all in the picture!

Certainly a hugely evocative poem...especially at this time, Pia, and I heartily agree with all that has been said.

Mark- Yes it was a cry for Africa mainly. I think we need to shift the distribution of ressources to feed the world. There are far too many with a lot and not enough for the broad masses. And yes nature is being poisoned- we are really killing the world, aren't we? It's not pure innocence but pig-headedness and callousness. I'm all right Jack. We also have to have a look at consumerism- it is exhorbitant- and really peaked about 20 years ago leaving pollution in its wake. Sometimes I fear the earth doesn't stand to be saved- so sad - such a barren feeling.
Well thank you very much for reading and for your lengthy comment. Really made me happy to see such awareness.

Thanks Tina- You know- if you didn't agree I would have been left wondering. If the plight of Eastern Africa can't hit a chord in humanity's heart- then nothing can I think.
Thank you for reading and telling me your thoughts. So kind of you.
have a warm sunny day- I hope- we haven't seen the sun for almost a fortnight but today there is hope. It has really been getting me down.
