Chemicals

I wonder what the world would look like
without chemicals?
Would we use ancient Chinese medical knowledge
and complementary therapy
to cure our illnesses?
Chemicals are cheap in the western world.
Therapy is expensive.
Why can’t we choose?
It’s unacceptable that the poor
cannot afford other than chemicals
to alleviate our illnesses.
Why do we insist on using pesticides on our crops?
It is not a cheap way to mass produce
because at the same time we are killing our
natural habitat.
All the birds, insects, animals, flowers, weeds, herbs
just cannot survive and we humans become ill.
When will we learn that money isn’t everything
especially as we are destroying the earth?
If we buy organic commodities then we are on the right path
but they are also expensive in comparison to
pesticide -ridden commodities.
It is a step in the right direction though.
If we want to continue treating the earth as a friend
we have to give it a lot of thought.

And there is much food for thought here, Pia. There is certainly a lot of evidence to support 'alternative medicine', and many herbal remedies have come into there own again. As far as chemicals and agriculture is concerned, we do need to take a long hard look at our use of pesticides, etc., because our natural habitat is the most precious thing we have.

I'm glad you agree Tina. I wasn't sure whether you Brits call it alternative medicine as we do over here. Thanks for reading. Much appreciated.

Almost every question you can ask about the problems facing the planet involves the words greed, profit and corruption in the answer.

I know you're right Mangone- it is so disheartening.

I like 'Chemicals are cheap in the western world. Therapy is expensive.'Unfortunately many Gp's will just reach for their prescription pad & give you something that has awful side - effects, when you may just need to talk it though.

Hi Pia,

this is such an important issue, that you have mentioned. Do you know Pia, in our garden, we try
to keep as much wildness going as possible, infact
some parts of our garden, is a woodland...very wild.

We have hedgehogs which keep the slugs down and the
wildlife must have a party in the mass of weeds and
long grass that we have.

But the point I'm trying to make is, we grow, lettuce, carrots, radishes, spinach, leeks, coriander, basil, onions, all in the ground and
nothing gets eaten by anything but us. We don't even
use slug pellets or sprays. We have loads of lady birds, which eat the greenfly, so we don't suffer
with that problem.

Growing organic is very important to me, if you get
the balance of nature right, then you don't need
chemicals.

What I'm trying to say is, thankyou for bringing a
subject matter up, that is very close to my heart.

I too agree with what mangone said, it really makes
my blood boil, but I do try to do my bit, which is
all I can do.

Thankyou again for touching on the subject.

Jenny.
