Mixed emotions

I’m not quite sure
It is with mixed emotions
I hike all the way
To the second story
several flights of stairs
All out of breath
To enter my flat
My view is flats on both sides
3 stories high
A bit of sky
And a lot of kitchen windows
At the moment, scaffolding
Is what I see
A multitude of folks
From all walks of life
Gives the place colour
As well as the trees and bushes
Along the pathway
Between the buildings
I guess it is a bit of a ghetto
A motley lot we are
This is no rich-man’s haven
Loud music at all times
Day and night
Gunshots are an ordinary sound
An old man on his daily rounds,
walking stick in hand
Children on skates, bikes
Little kids on tricycles
Rummaging around in the flower beds
Pulling the plants out and
Throwing them at each other
I shout out from my balcony
They stop, claiming they are innocent
I shake my head
And laugh a bit
Wondering where their parents are
Generally a hubbub of life
And seldom pleasant silence
When you can only hear
the wind and the birdsong
You can just hear the highway
In the background
Well I suppose
It’s love and hate
But I’ll be moving out
I wasn’t born here
So I ain’t gonna die here either.
I’m gonna keep moving around
Until I find the perfect place

I cannot get over how you are able to write a poem
with only one comma and one full stop, I think it's
very clever, because I couldn't do it. I seem to be
addicted to commas and full stops.

Anyway Pia this was very descriptive, I saw the
whole scene, very cleverly put together.

Hi Jenny
It may give meaning to some and others may think it lacking. Nevertheless I am glad for your comment. Thank you kindly

I think many will identify with this, Pia, especially these lines:-

"Generally a hubbub of life
And seldom pleasant silence
When you can only hear
the wind and the birdsong..."

I was born and bred in London, but couldn't wait to move to the countryside. Then again, one of my daughters found town-life far more agreeable. Wouldn't do for us all to be the same, I guess;-)

I think this is a really good snapshot of inner-city flat life, Pia.

I can totally identify with:

`But I’ll be moving out
I wasn’t born here
So I ain’t gonna die here either.
I’m gonna keep moving around
Until I find the perfect place..'

Trouble is - there IS no perfect place!

I don't mind the city life Tina- I just want a bit of foliage to look at and not just another apartment building. I have a couple of places in mind and the possibilities are not a utopia luckily. There is also a place by the sea I am looking at- it is all very promising. I just have to have patience and that I have- moving is no big deal for me. I am so glad that you found your place in the country-side. Beautiful. I want to live near a city or town so I don't have far to commodities (?)- shops cafés etc- so I suppose I am a bit choosy- haha
Thanks for reading and your lovely comment

Hi Coral

Well I am sure it will be more perfect than at the moment ;D
I am so glad you read this and picked out a stanza. I had fun writing it because I am really looking forward to moving. Got an offer just this morning but it is not quite right- ;D so I refused!! Gotta be a bit choosy to find the right place.
Thanks

This is lovely, I could picture everything, especially the children throwing plants at each other, Reminds me of all the things there are to love about living in the city x

marionwozere | May 9, 2011 - 17:10

"My view is flats on both sides
3 stories high
A bit of sky
And a lot of kitchen windows"

is clever description. Knew immediately what you meant.

And I liked the slice of life about little children pulling plants up to throw at each other. Feel after reading this and Windows I'm getting a strong impression of your surroundings

You know Phase2 I am home most days so it takes up a lot of my time watching life go by in my closest surroundings.
