Shadows in confetti darkness
broken by streaks of sunlight.
On flowerbeds the children
and babies lay crying
for peace.
Dormant souls are pierced by
furrowed clouds while
the holy stones and twigs lay on the earth.
The angel whispers,
this eternal harbinger of truth.
Why ! The meek ones
are humiliated by the ghosts of penance
whilst wisteria winds it’s way
along the trellis path.
A pedal boat upon the deep green lake
as Gardia’s cathedral tower
rises above the rocks.
Only the power of imagination
can disperse the shadows
and turn the babies cries to laughter
A mob , an ocean of believers,
draw graffiti on the city walls,
waiting for Jericho to fall
A godless passion
within medieval discipline,
skulls testifying piety and justice.
To no avail
As the non-believers crowd
An already packed railway station;
vendors and porters with hats;
ladies with monkeys.
Never to stray too far
from peace
and solitude,
though ageing with
sweet temper
A reason for departure
from this wrecked faith
as it runs on crooked wheels
with bloodless precision
Tumbling down hills
Monstrously illuminating the landscape
Scenes of whore and redemption
A torch in the cavern of life
Swaying to the tone of a saxophone
Playing the blues
This ancient club is for
one creed only
and ambiguity is order of the day

This is so beautiful, Pia...full of such rich imagery.
I love this stanza especially:-
"Dormant souls are pierced by
furrowed clouds while
the holy stones and twigs lay on the earth.
The angel whispers,
this eternal harbinger of truth."
A gem, indeed;-)

Hello pia,
I went on the internet to see if I could find out
a little more about this piece, but to no avail
sadly.
I love all the descriptions in this poem, it seemed
quite sad, but I loved the last stanza:-
Swaying to the tone of a saxaphone
Playing the blues
This ancient club is for
one creed only
and ambiguity is order of the day
fascinating reading pia, I would love some more
information about the story behind this piece.
Thankyou for the read.
Jenny.

Hi Jenny
Thanks a lot for reading.
You see- this is basically about religion and faith but in a sort of blended way. It is really about someone not really believing in the church mainly. That is the main idea behind all the images.
Hope that makes it a bit clearer for you but you are welcome to interpret as you wish. That is the good thing about being the reader- you can put it together however you like. It can be difficult to really pinpoint the poet's aim and message så to speak. So I do empathise with you if it is a bit trying. It isn't sad actually- maybe a bit cynical in a way.
anyway thank you very much for giving it your effort. I do appreciate it so much. Have a lovely weekend.
