Days of preparation,
dinner jacket,
this boy has style,
only 18 and he loves to dress up.
His mother’s apple of the eye.
He’s all done up for the
School Ball;
all his mates likewise in full dress.
They impress each other with the small touches:
Black shirt, white bow-tie, suspenders and pointy black shoes
They swap and borrow clothing items from each other.
The girls looking beautiful as only teenagers can.
Dance and booze and chat;
it works well and the atmosphere is friendly.
The party goes on for hours and in the early morning,
tired but happy, they leave to continue their merriment in the streets, stirring up the town;
looking for something to eat, even a prawn sandwich but all is closed.
Sober parents are called to pick the young kids up and drive them home to their beds.
My favourite angel is dropped off at his own place
and sleeps all Sunday.
Later I can see the photos on Facebook and am impressed
These are proud kids. Don’t mess with them…..

Hi Pia,
A wonderful poem showing a proud Mother, who I'm sure will be thinking of this moment for years to come, also a Son who will be remembering that day
in years to come.
It's great to look back on these moments and
you've written a great piece for the competition
Pia.
Thankyou for sharing this.
Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Jenny.

I agree with Jenny, an excellent poem for that competition.
I must admit, I am lacking inspiration, completely, and can only envy yours.
Your son must have looked splendid, and your pride shines through your poem, even brighter than those, hopefully, shiny black shoes he wore;-)

It's interesting to see you manage to weave in the necessary phrases with no forcing. Nice to hear of "merriment in the streets, stirring up the town" that doesn't get out of hand too. But this isn't in Britain is it? Rh

Thanks Rhiannow- No it's not the UK- it is seldom they get into fights but yes they do- at least arguments- my son has never really had a beating. He is pretty tall and has a lot of muscle power but he is well spoken and that s important...
