According to the Bible, Adam and Eva renounced everlasting life. They took a bite of the tree of knowledge and doomed mankind to mortality.
Many of us know no better than the fact that science is the history of mankind.
We know that the human race is full of sin. We cheat, we deceive, we are unfaithful, we kill, we murder, we neglect, we chastise and we take a bite of the apple every day.
Everlasting life is for those who believe in it. It’s as though heaven isn’t meant for everyone as you know that if you sin you will end up in hell. At least according to the Bible. Hell’s fire is the alternative to heaven.
Human’s can make life on earth hell. There are no boundaries to the human imagination which can develop into morbid barbarism.
Believe in heaven if you like but heaven and hell are here on earth. We can live in our own little heaven on earth and deselect hell. This is knowledge and wisdom. Some of us can anyway. The ‘civilised’ part of the world can opt out of hell but we rest on consumerism. Our goods are produced by people who haven’t taken a bite of the tree of knowledge because they have another religion; Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam. Some have no religion at all because it is the opium for the people. Neither did they take a bite of knowledge.
The more knowledge we acquire the less space the bible seems to take up. Nirvana seems to be the goal of our aspiration. Religion- Christianity, Catholicism and Islam have often lead to war. It is innate to man not to concur with a belief in which feuds and battles may be the result. This is the total of all knowledge.
Take a bite!

You tackle a complicated, controversial subject, eloquently here, Pia.
Food for thought, most certainly.

Thank you very much for reading Tina. I really appreciate your comment. As always religion is on the agenda. A never ending controversial subject matter, methinks. Sad it makes wars :(

I agree with what you say. Dawkins is no fool and has plenty of knowledge, enough it would seem to disbelieve in organized religion.
Highhat | September 20, 2010 - 12:11
Hi Hilary- thanks for the comment. Who's Dawkins? Sorry for being so ignorant :S
pia ;)
hilary west | September 20, 2010 - 12:19
Hi, It is Richard Dawkins, an Oxford Professor who believes in evolution rather than God. You must look at his book 'The God Delusion' to get a fuller understanding of his thought and work.

Hi Pia, I don't really like to comment on religion,
but I thought you spoke well on the subject.
Iam also leaving you a message, to say I read your
comment you left on my dream story, thankyou so much,
left a message for you.

thanks for commenting anyway Jenny was really kind of you. Really do appreciate that you are reading my small pieces. We've got to stick together, eh?

Can't you believe in science and religion? Science can take us back as far as a few seconds before the big bang but it can't tell us what went bang or why. Maybe that's where god comes in. Too much is blamed on god though, in my experience god gave each of us one thing - our first breath everything else is a crap shoot. But i agree about heaven and hell on earth and our own creation. But the hell we create isn't for ourselves but for others - we know we're extermination species and destroying our one and only planet, we know that the human population is reaching saturation point we know that there are people with more money than they can ever spend while others live in boxes and starve but we do nothing - just keep on going. God has been surplanted and money is the new divinity.
just a thought, nice to see you're still posting
Bruce.

I have respect for faith but I am an atheist myself. I believe more in science than religion- I believe that God is in me not in heaven. As someone else put it here- God is myself, I am god. There's a lot science can't tell us yet, that is probably why the world is suffering. Science tells us about the conscious and sub-conscious in an exsistential sense and that's the way I prefer it, a mix of science and exsistentialism, no religion for me. Though I do think that eastern religion and philosophy are tightly connected and that we can learn a lot from them. I also believe a lot in nature and that has nothing to do with faith. I believe in the goodness of mankind. Best to think the best of your neighbours- it sort of makes a good influence- good vibes methinks.
;)

I have a theory, what you give out you get back
three fold. My religion, is to always try and be the
best you can and when things get you down, is the
time to smile even more. It's not about being a
goody, goody, but more a question of treating others
the way you would expect to be treated yourself.
That's the way I feel anyway.
Jenny.
darkenwolf | September 24, 2010 - 19:09
its a nice sentiment jenny, but in my experience the more you give the more others take. its a very rate person that is selfless.
Highhat | September 24, 2010 - 19:13
I was supposed to spell existentialism that way- that is better.
Jenny I believe in being good to my neighbours then they will be good to me. I can't imagine being bad to anyone. Life can be trying but yes smile and the world smiles back. Sure !
pia ;)
skinner_jennifer | September 25, 2010 - 11:32
I think you need to be sensible, when you treat
people the way you expect to be treated. For instance,
if someone is taking advantage of me, I would just
smile and walk away. I do know if someone is not
being completely honest with me.
I believe as I said before, that we all have guardian
angels watching over us, they protect us from the evil
that is around us, all we have to do, is be open to
them, let them into our lives, then thank them, they
want to be heard.
Jenny.
Highhat | September 25, 2010 - 15:43
I think I am pretty naive. I'm like an open book but I am hurt if someone tries to lie to me and I discover it. If it is someone I know well I uncover their dishonesty and joke about it. People who are compulsively dishonest usually have a reason for being so. It can be their background and I am very lenient and understanding. I suppose I am a bit of a sucker but I do know when people are dishonest.
I think my son and I have a guardian angel because we are having a remarkably good spell but then we didn't have a guardian angel for years ;) I am very grateful. I might not thank the angel but I always tell others how grateful I am for my good life. There is a story here on abctales about a jiddish saying- there is an angel for every blade of grass standing by it a saying 'grow grow'- I think that is beautiful I think I will start thanking my guardian angel, quietly ;)
Thanks Jenny
cheers
pia ;)
skinner_jennifer | September 25, 2010 - 18:01
Hi Pia,
that is great, I promise you that the angels will
listen to you. It's really sad when you have had alot
of bad experiences in your life, but it can only make
you stronger.
I think that when people do nasty things, you have
to feel sorry for them, but I also believe that what
you do in this life, will come back to haunt you
maybe not today or tomorrow, but it happens when you
least expect it, then you wonder why is this happening
to me, then those people think that the world is
against them, they forget about what they did in the
past.
Anyway pia I also believe that humans can be angels,
there are alot of angels out there. When my dad died
at home from cancer, the hospice nurses were brilliant, I do not know where I would have been
without them.
The way I look at life is, when we were tadpoles
swimming, fighting to be the one that would be aloud
to arrive at their destination, it was a difficult
journey, but we made it, you, me and every single
person on this planet. So we arrived and whether we
like it or not, we have all been put here for a reason, we might not know what that reason is, but in
a way we are all angels here, it's just some people
don't understand.
Hope I have explained what I believe.
You enjoy the rest of your weekend, let the angels
watch over you and your son. thankyou for being a
friend.
Jenny.
Highhat | September 26, 2010 - 13:29
I think living people are angels too. But I thought when my Mum died that she had become an angel. She was such a lovely person. I think my sisters are angels. I am glad that you regard us as tadpoles like the great evolutionist Darwin. I think so too. The journey doesn't stop when we hit the planet it goes on and on even after we die. We have to be as good as gold in this life to have an even better life next time. I've never thought that I was put here for a reason but it adds a quality dimension to being here . I think my reason must be to be as good a mother as I can and I am really trying hard. I love my kids and one way or another I hope they are not too angry with the bad times. The oldest is a bit. I think it is unfair but we humans are really very innocent and lack the knowledge that genius' have. There are some genius' that have gone down and are going down in history and you wonder why they are genius' and why we other ' mortals' are having such a hard time. Mozart was a genius and Darwin and a lot of present day people. But I side tracked there. Of course it is not wealth and fame but life can be pretty hard without it! But getting back to angels. Yes there are some true angels on earth. I'm glad you got to know some while you were having a bad time with your Dad's illness. That's what really counts- in times of need. Don't you think? My sister's have really shown some lovely colours when I landed on earth finally after many years of illness. I love them dearly. I would never manage without them.I think we get on now even better than when we were kids.
Yes I do think we all have a purpose either here on earth or somewhere else. Except when I don't feel very tolerant I wonder sometimes. Ha Ha ;D But I do believe in survival of the fittest. In the way that if you're good you get to be even better in the next life and eventually you reach Nirvana. So in some ways some people are abit ahead of others- as though life on earth is on different levels and phases. I hope you understand?
take care and thank YOU for being a friend.
pia
ps my english isn't improving unfortunately. It's really difficult sometimes- I put words in the wrong place and use the wrong words sometimes- it's terrible- bear over with me please
Kahdai | September 26, 2010 - 13:39
Too true! I used to believe in too much nonsense, now I have faith in whatever makes sense to me, not one whole religion. When someone created hell around me, something helped me survive & keep faith years until my wishes came true & I escaped with help from some of these rare good people. I think some people are angels just depends how what they have been through has affected them. K x
skinner_jennifer | September 26, 2010 - 14:06
Hi Pia,
I do love to converse with you so much, also I think
your english is brilliant, even better than mine, at
least you know another language, I only know english,
and even that's not brilliant. I went to a very poor
school, where if you were not a fast learner, you got
left behind and hardly any subjects were taught. But
when I was in my twenties, I went to college and took
english litrature, and english language, it helped a
bit.
I totally agree with you with what you say about
surviving. I watched a programme about how as tadpoles
we take that long journey, they used people, but I
could not believe how difficult the journey actually
was, it was like climbing mount everest, under the
greatest of stress, being pushed through a pipe with
millions of other tadpoles and at the end of it, only
one gets in and that is you and me, phew!
Thanks again for replying.
Jenny.
Highhat | September 26, 2010 - 15:42
I couldn't help laughing at the Phew- yeah we made it- and we have to make the best of it and not complain too often. Life really is quite wonderful. We are a bit luckier than a lot of people on the planet. Good on you for going to college. I bet it was fun as well, learning a lot. I couldn't speak a word of this language when I came to Denmark but I managed to graduate from High School here after all. I was pretty proud and still am. I went on to do a bachelor in Library Science - so I have managed just fine- education wise.
Now I know what you meant by tadpoles. I thought you were talking about evovling from fish as theory goes, ie if you don't believe in Adam and Eve! Funny- We had real tadpoles in a jar when I was little and then they all started to become frogs so we drove to a creek a put them out. We were really concerned about them. Children are so innocent and spontaneous.
On that note I will say thank you also for replying.
pia ;)
skinner_jennifer | September 27, 2010 - 11:37
Hi Pia,
yes it was fun learning at college, you get treated
more like an adult, than when your at school.
We went to the theatre alot, we read some brilliant
books, "Sons and lovers," by D.H. Lawrence was one I
enjoyed and remember.
Wow you graduated from high school, did a bachelor in
Library Science, you should be very proud.
When I was young, I also used to catch tadpoles with
a net and take them home, I remember my mum, went mad
once, because I brought home a whole bucket full, I
can laugh about it now. The house we lived in before
we moved to the one we are in now, had a pond
practically right outside the back door, it was
awfull because when the tadpoles turned into frogs,
you couldn't leave the back door open, otherwise the
frogs would come in. When you opened the door, they
would be waiting there for you. Glad I don't live
there anymore.
Jenny.
Highhat | September 27, 2010 - 17:29
I put a frog in my sister's girlfriends bed once!
skinner_jennifer | September 27, 2010 - 19:45
He, he that's funny, sorry I shouldn't laugh.
I do love frogs really, but not in the house, (shiver.) Spiders are another thing I don't like in
the house. When I'm working in the garden, I can have
them crawling all over me, it doesn't bother me, but
in the house, I don't mind small ones, but the big
ones, (creepy.) The other week, I was sat down on a
chair drying my hair, looking in the mirror, when all
of a sudden this big huge black spider came crawling
over my shoulder, I have never jumped so high in all
my life, my heart was going so fast, I thought I was
going to have a heart attack, I just started crying,
it was awful. Now I always check my clothes and shake
them out.
Jenny.
Highhat | September 28, 2010 - 17:43
Don't like spiders in the house either. I live on the 2nd story so there's not much danger of that ;) When I was a kid in Australia we used to pry away the stones to find funnelwebs and tarantulas and black widows! My god what kids do for fun! It's unbeliveable that I am alive today ! Not much for snakes either
pia ;)
Kahdai | September 29, 2010 - 19:04
I get shivers from all creepy crawlies especially slugs! I like frogs except one in the shed I was trying to chase out jumped at me(scared me a bit I dont want it to toch me)! I still pick up some spiders and chuck them out the house, only some am too scared to touch bare hands & have to catch it in something! Youv got a nice long conversation going! K nosing in again ;)
Highhat | September 29, 2010 - 19:09
You are more than welcome Kahdai- creepy crawlies aren't that much fun and frogs tend to be a bit slimy and then they can jump a long way. generally they are a bit styoopid- ha ha ;) but I like when they sing in the pond- all croaking together- all the frogs- a frog went a humming ahum ;)
pia
Kahdai | September 29, 2010 - 19:36
Aaw thats nice I didnt know they sing! I dont hear it in our pond though... it is small & its funny to put one in someones bed because they are harmless really just could get squashed! :/ K
Highhat | September 29, 2010 - 19:47
yeah it could have gotten squashed but I wasn't thinking straight I guess I just wanted to tease her but she wasn't easily put off. Took a lot of things just in her stride so to say . She was a nice person. She died in June of cancer- shattered my sister and it is sad- she was only 57- too early
well frogs hum and croak- I call it singing because the whole pond comes alive with the it. Birds love to eat frogs so the cycle is perfect.
;)pia
Lady-Bathsheba | October 4, 2010 - 14:49
Highhat - I like what you have to say - Religion to me is completely nonsensical .... It was created by man as a means to control the masses - Folk unfortunately find this all too simple concept extremely difficult to comrehend - I struggle to understand the mentality of folk (with free choice ... obviously some folk do not have free choie and are indoctrinated from birth .... but that's a whole new chapter ... lol) to put their belief in something that is so totally and utterly ridiculous -:)
You have a good strong articulate voice -:)
Highhat | October 4, 2010 - 18:28
Lady-Bathsheba- thank you for your comment. Yeah it is a bit ridiculous- religion is so dogmatic and pure nonsense on the side. I don't need a set of rules to live by- I only need my instincts and intuition. I can work out for myself that I don't need to kill anybody because she doesn't believe in the same things as I do! Sorry , am just about to get carried away again.
;)thanks for reading. I am glad we agree.
