The Ruin. IP

Everyone in town knows what you are talking about when you mention “The Ruin”.

A long time ago- more than 400 years , Christian IV decided he would have a hunting lodge built. So said, so done! Well it was never completed, so it wasn’t because it had not stood the test of time and fallen into decay- it just never had a roof put on it or 4 complete walls. It is a strange and unique piece of architecture. You usually imagine a hunting lodge made of wood, don’t you? Well this is made of clay bricks and stones , held together with mortar, with pieces of stained glass wedged in between. Shady cloisters give peace and rest from your walk in the forest where The Ruin is situated by the Wide Pond. The huge old beech trees leaning over the walls add to the lodge's cathedral atmosphere and the quietude of the pond make you feel at rest. When walking in this part of the woods you always have to make a bee-line for The Ruin where you can rest and ponder over this particular time in history where King Christian had so many architectural plans for his country and where most of them are complete. Nobody seems to know anymore why he never finished this special building and no one really seems to care. It has become such a bit of everyday life in the town that you only ask why when you are standing exactly there, beneath the shady cloisters of what was supposed to be a hunting lodge.

It sounds fascinating, Pia;-) A wonderful take on the IP. You describe it so well, I can almost see it, and speaking of seeing things, there is a wonderful double rainbow outside my window as I sit and write. It actually seems to end at my neighbour's greenhouse. Wonder if therein lies a pot of gold;-)

I don't now what your neighbour is like but if you start rummaging around in their greenhouse they will probably want to share with you! Just love double rainbows Tina-

No rainbows here just rain rain and more of it and lots of lightening and thunder- so much the fuses blew... all in order now..almost thought I had lost the computer- that would be bad...

I feel at peace already, Pia. It's always fun to daydream about the past and so many 'best laid plans' that never pan out.
