"Strawberry fields forever"

A melody spurs my memory
Being 18 again
Barefoot on the pavement
In the middle of a summers night
The stars were there
For my sake
Strawberry fields forever
Love was there
Preferably
for my sake
Awkward and shy
Barefoot on the pavement
Hot dirt and green blades of grass
Sipping elder flower wine
Love was there
For my sake
Kindness from my heart
The future was nothing to consider
All seemed to flow from the moment
Strawberry fields forever
Barefoot in the grass
Hair flowing
Down a sweaty nape
Clothes soaked through from
A dip in the lake
Love was there
Friends calling
A smoke on the hill
The kitten playing
With a leaf
Leftover from autumn
Sun shining on the dandelions
No time for looking at the clock
Love was there
For my sake

I really like this one too. Youthful memories - very evocative. Melodies do that, don't they? Take you right back I mean...

You know Coral it wasn't even the "strawberry fields forever" (though I did live in the middle of a grand strawberry field!!;)) melody but one about walking barefoot on the pavement that spurred this one. I went right back. But exactly, melodies do take you back and you remember other ones you heard at the time. It is very nostalgic. Thanks for reading.

Much enjoyed this one, pia...

(By the way, elderflower is all one word)

Nothing is as nostalgic as a tune, you are so right, and with this poem, you certainly did take me back. Which also reminds me of Dusty Springield's song 'Going Back', which had such wonderful words. Don't know if that was before your time though;-)

Nice one, Pia.

Love the refrain: "Love was there for my sake". Beautiful poem, how I miss being eighteen ;)

Hi Pia,

Ah! I can tell you are reminicing here, what memories
you write about.

I love the lines:-

A melody spurs my memory
Being 18 again
Barefoot on the pavement
In the middle of a summer night
The stars were there
for my sake
Strawberry fields forever
Love was there
Preferably
for my sake

Perfect, but I'm sure you weren't akward and shy.

Another perfectly beautiful poem from you Pia.

Jenny.

very much enjoyed.

Hi Tina- I remember Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield from way back when. Glad I could take you back for a while. It is nice to remember ones youth- rather carefree time.
thanks for reading

Hi Magic- I don't miss it that much but I do love to remember the times when I was young and carefree- the m ost important thing being the fact that everything and everyone was so beautiful. Glad you enjoyed

Hi Jenn- well you know I was a bit awkward and a bit shy actually- sometimes I just couldn't get the words over my lips but I was so tanned that you couldn't see me turning red in the face ;D
thank you for your kind comment

What was the actual song, Pia - I've been racking my brains for `barefoot on pavement' songs and can only think of Adele (who wasn't even thought of back then). Then there was a film `Barefoot in the Park' late 60s I think but can't remember a song connected with it. Hey ho. Coral x

Highhat | April 7, 2011 - 07:32

You know Coral- I can't remember- how embarrassing but to be quite honest I am almost sure that it was a danish song. Ha that is my excuse for not remembering but it wasn't an oldie- that is for sure. No it wasn't Adele but I do love hers: "Chasing pavements". I was feeling pretty happy yesterday morning- (nothing wrong with my mood this morning either!) and the time I wrote about is from before I was diagnosed with a chronic disorder so I always go back with such fond memories. Such a happy time.
Sorry can't help you there with the song. Never mind- we all know "Strawberrry Fields forever", don't we? But if I ever bump into it again I will let you know. A lot of danish artists sing in english.

Thanks for that, Pia. I can identify with what you say about a `time before' and hope things are at least more on an even keel now. I wondered where `Pia' came from and now I know!

Yes I think Adele is a wonderful singer - I love her latest (again can't remember the title!).

Highhat | April 7, 2011 - 11:45

I can't remember Adele's latest title either- we are a bit bad Coral- but yes it is really very good. I've heard it so may times but chasing pavements must have been quite a hit since we remember that one !! ;D
As I have written about it- yes things are on much more even keel now thank goodness. It took so so many years but it worked. Thanks for getting back to me.
