to Haiti
anonymously.
An hour's wages. I'd done nothing
but stand in the warehouse
listening to Radio One
waiting for a delivery
and there was breaking news from Haiti
I had been grumpy all morning
because a man kept humming
and it was a bit chilly
and because I was still owed a lieu day
so on my dinner break I went online.
£5.80
to Haiti
anonymously.
Maybe it shows how rarely I do the right thing
because the rest of the day I felt pretty good
and still felt the need
to tell people what I'd done.

Hi, thank-you.
The minimum wage is £5.80. At least it was this time last year when Haiti appeals were on the Radio 1 news.

Liked that it was made anonymously, but also that felt had to tell everyone about it. Clever rhyme £5.80 and Haiti. Rhythm works in this poem
