Nothing compares to you

from the ABC set Spunky doggerel

I know this song already exists
written by Prince, as people are quick to point out
but this isn't about Prince, or Sinead O Connor,
that's often the case in life.

Nothing compares to you.
I am saying that, not crooning it,
this isn't a parody or a late night pissed up sing a long.
Nothing compares to you.

Being cheated on is like being mugged,
when the only things in your wallet
were your library card, the phone number of someone quite important
a photo of that dog you saw in the street once

no use to those thieves
you left me with that feeling of loss
going back to my house, everyone asked 'Are you okay,'
and I said yes, it's just the strangest thing just happened ...'

Probably deep down I deserve it
but right now I just feel empty and want to be left alone.
In my room I think how nothing compares to you
and how you are running down the High Streetwaving my wallet in the air

but maybe at some point you will open it
and find nothing but my smiling face on my driving licence ID card
the first shopping list we ever wrote together
and realise what you have taken away.

i really like this ( l liked the song too!) I did notice when I read it aloud that its a bit wordy, and if you took out some of the 'and's and the 'but's and the 'just's which are epidemic in our poetry it would read much smoother.

just a suggestion!

and thing about you are running down the High Street with my wallet - couple of typos in that line

I think it's fine as it is
