crawled through mineshafts
lights shining from their foreheads

working through his lunch break

after being disturbed, then chased,
looking behind them
as they climb through a hole in the fence
hiding under dustbin bags
listening to the sirens,

Do you mean 'burgulars'? That's how my wife says the word - it's North London talk. Do you say 'esculator', 'wardrobed' and 'dressinged gownd' as well?
