Wound

from the ABC set The Poet Who Fell in Love

The bullet hole snuggles
up to my collar bone.

It is your mark;
your scarlet seal of wax
stamped onto my flesh

and I will treasure it,
this little ruby well
that is mine, and only mine.

It is my poisonous poppy
that out-bleeds all of those roses
that you gave the others.

It will be my medal of bravery
that clings to my chest.

And I will never let it heal –

because it remains the only thing
of value that you have ever given me.

Beautiful, I really like this. The ending is perfect,

and I loved this verse the best;
"It is my poisonous poppy
that out-bleeds all of those roses
that you gave the others."

Well done :)

Thank you Beeme! I think that's my favourite verse too - but I am a sucker for anything with a 'popp' in it :P

Magic, for such a short poem, the imagery is fantastic, complete, depressing and inspiring all at the same time. An amazing read. Well done.

Nathan.

I think I should stop posting comments on your work!
The reason is that every time I read something written by you, I am always short of words. I simply can't express myself in words!
All the above posted comments are apt for this one.
There is nothing else I can say.

Completely missed this one, dear Magic. Still, better late than never, as they say;-)

As has been said, this bears all your hallmarks and I love the saracasm in the last line. Well done;-)

Hey there vidit.chopra! Please don't ever stop commenting, it's reviewers' comments that make me want to keep on writing ;) Even if you have to come out with random words I'll always appreciate the support!

Tina - glad I'm keeping the 'hallmark' alive ;) Completely agree - better late than never!

Hello Julie! Yes, unfortunately it is true. But I think heartbreak is a sort of rite of passage for every teenager! Glad you liked the last lines ;)
