Loch Ness Mess

from the ABC set Childrens Verse

Tommy Mc Dee and Angus Mc Kenna.
Went to the Loch to fish for their dinner.
They had waterproof trousers and jackets to match.
And a large wicker basket for holding their catch.

In the bow of their boat provisions were stowed.
Tommy brewed tea while young Angus rowed.
Out to the place where they’d caught fish before.
And there they dropped anchor and brought in the oars.

They slung in their lines, the hooks nicely baited.
Then sat and relaxed, chatted and waited.
After a while they both fell asleep.
But something was stirring down in the deep.

Down in the darkness, near the loch bed.
A well-known monster was shaking his head.
He grabbed the men’s anchor buried beneath.
Then swam up the Loch with it clamped in his teeth.

The men slept on as the boat zoomed away.
The monster swam round and started to play.
Towing the boat to the left and the right.
He’d wait for a second then pull the rope tight.

The beast splashed the boat and swam round and round it.
Then placed back the anchor just where he’d found it.
He swam to the surface and spied the pair snoring.
That’s the trouble with humans, he sighed, they’re so boring.

dropped anchor and bought in the oars. (brought)? in the oars.

A poem that rhymes. I'm going to try that. Kids should love this.

You are one eagle eyed Celticman. My problem...too much Guinness not enough spell checking! Cheers.

Thanks FB, getting into a bit of run this week. Got a few ideas kicking about. You know those weeks. Sometimes you can stare at a piece of paper for half a day and nothing happens. Other days it just flows onto the page.

This flows beautifully, shades - and so comical. Kids would definitely love this, and adults should too, it's brilliant. Well done on the cherry, going to read this one to my own two :)

Lovely just right for the kids. Perhaps you and I could bring about a revolution in poetry and get more people rhyming.

Thanks. I love sing along rhyming verse. I know it's not everyones cuppa. Poetry has many genres. This is just what works for me and I hope it would be fun for kids to read.
