Windover Hill

from the ABC set Through the square window

In a golden light, we took the long path,
A blackbird sings his alarm and a pigeon clapped,
The red gold disc of sun slipped behind the brow.
"Quick run" and you became a shadow against the sangria sky.
Breathless, I stood beside you blinking away the black sun spots.
You swore you could see the curve of the earth and reminded me
it's not the sun thats moving, it's the earth, tilting, spinning.
We sat in the long man's hands as if he alone could keep us from falling.

It seems we both had 'golden' on our minds;-)

A beautiful poem, Shirley and the last line took my breath away.

I agree with, Tina - that last line is something else, Shirley - amazing! I really love all the images of light - the whole poem is glowing, well done ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - simply beautiful.

Thanks Tina, Magic and David, I watched the sun go down the other night and it gave me an idea, I'm glad you liked it. :~}

Wonderful. I liked the 'clapped' - I'd never thought of a pigeon's flight like that but you're right. I've never been to the long man - have seen plenty of pictures, but at last now I can imagine sitting there.

I confess I've only seen him from a distance,;~} the wood pigeon "claps" as part of his display flight, if you're lucky and all is quiet you can really hear it, I appeciate your taking time to comment rj.
