Thousands of stars from under the sea shining on white sands.
Red, blue, yellow, striped the stars were as surprised as the shore.
It was a mass stranding event on the shore of Starfish Beach in Grand Cayman.
A sudden warming of water temperature had caused the event.
Hundreds maybe even thousands of starfish had been washed ashore Stella a girl of 12 was amazed at what she saw on the beach.
She noticed that not all of the starfish were dead.
Whenever she came across a starfish that showed a sign of life, Stella would gently and carefully return it to sea.
Her older brother Gary noticed what Stella was doing and thought that she was a fool. "why are you carrying a dead starfish around, stupid?"
The starfish in her hand was in fact dead but Stella didn't realize it as the starfish had dryed and died in her hands on its way back to the ocean. Stella put the dried starfish back on the beach and chose another one, this one more moist.
Gary again admonished her, "why you throwing that starfish back in the water. It doesn't matter. Look at all those dead starfish. It's natures way. You can't go and pick up all of them and the same thing is likely to happen again tomorrow or next week when we'll be home. You're wasting your time on a task that is never ending and bottom line doesn't matter.
Stella gently placed the starfish in the water. She turned to her brother and softly said. "It matters to that one."
