Treasures Of The Subconscious

I like to travel occasionally,

when voice of reason allows;

cast off fears of unwelcome

intrusions,

 

to step outside my comfort

zone, away from fraught –

tangled – busy traffic, those

chaotic zigzagging vehicles

that seem so intense;

 

forceful drivers vengeance that

seems varnished with many

layers of frayed anger, they

express poisonous actions like

venomous snakes – so superior

it scares me.

 

My moments of strength come

from delicate music by neon

flicker; tantalizing my musings

in peace,

 

for I'm a seeker in the labyrinth

of contemplation; happy with

each touchstone of breath,

expressing serenity...glancing

every sequence, showering

events that are quintessentially

dreamlike.

 

Buried treasures of the

subconscious, that surface;

bathed in sensations...golden

wonders at end of engaging

rainbow, where inquisitive

minds are searching,

 

being conveyed by weaving

flutes and whispering

December breezes, brushing

across my windowpane.

Thank you for your understanding Jacques. We were out in the car on our way to the shops, and were confronted by road rage yet again. Four cars trying to race in and out of traffic and nearly causing my partner to have an accident. It's so scary, especially when people think they own the road and feel they're in control when they're obviously not. I only wish the police had been around to see.

Some times when I'm out on the road, I see cars as monsters with headlights that glare at you like they want to eat you up. I used to love driving when I was younger, but now even as a passenger I find the whole process of being in the car as a passenger frightening, not becasue of my partner who is a brilliant driver, but because I don't trust other drivers who think they own the road. I would much prefer to be at home where I feel safe.

Hi Jack,

yes you're right Jack, but when you're almost staring death in the face because of road rage, getting from a to b can cause anxiety to go through the roof. Sometimes I wish I could just twitch my nose and be instantly transported to a forest, wood, or wherever I need to go.

I like the contrast between the madness on the roads and the serenity you seek. Some nice expressions in here. Very lovely, Jenny :)

Hi Paul,

sitting in my room with the wind gently blowing, and listening to the lilting sounds of flute music on youtube, was what initiially inspired me to write this poem. Which as you say is in complete contrast encountered by the madness of road rage.

We can't escape into dreams all the time, but some don't seem to know how to cope with the pressures without 'losing it', and increasing the aggro and dangers around for eveyone else.

I was hearing today of those who believe they should let their children do just as they feel like all the time, whether that be learning or not, obedience or not. The outcome was that their children may have to be asked not to come to a gathering with others, as they were ruining it for all, especially one child sensitive to noise. I feel so sorry for them for they need to be prepared for real life in adulthood, and that means fitting in with others, accepting authority rules, and knuckling down to some tedious learning, And then there is time for fun! And I think they are crying out to be 'got in order' rather than being left to themselves! Rhiannon

I'm so sorry! That sounds a terrible experience! I remember something you wrote a while ago, about a scary episode out with your partner in your car. You are both so lucky he is a calm, controlled driver. I'm glad you were able to find your inner peace again, that is a gift, too. Perhaps if those scary people could do so they would not behave like that. You describe the whole experience so vividly

You're right about that other scary episode Di. Strangely it was on the same bit of road, yet once again, but this time a lot more serious, because the drivers of each car seemed to be daring each other to dodge in and out from between moving cars. It was like something out of a film, my life was flashing before me.The problem is we have to go along that road to get to Sainsbury's, we could take another road, but it's quicker the other way.

My partner used to drive trucks for a living and thankfully loves driving, being very aware of anticipating other drivers who can become impatient. I myself am too nervous, which is why I don't drive anymore.

I love the idea of the labyrinth of contemplation. Whether we are intrepid or not, this seems like a good place to spend at least part of each day, possibly never finding the way out.

I'm languishing in mine at this very minute... with a cup of tea.

I am traveling as I read your poetry. You take me places. I've always been a fan since I came to ABC. Fact is I was traveling a-lot this autumn, jet lag, not sleeping well, stressed.... I came back & read your poetry... sometimes it help me sleep... and dream calmer dreams..escape & therapy for the soul.. Soo in a kind of spiritual way, as you write 'I like to travel'..... I am traveling in your poetry.... And for that, I Thank You...
