Land of the rising sun

I have never been in your beautiful country
All I know is what I see in books
On the TV
Hear on the radio
Mt Fuyjiama
Cherry blossoms-
Forests of them when Spring comes
Tokyo and the underground
All the high rise apartments and office buildings
Many people but so much
Zen
And cleanliness
Calm people
(Despite my panic)
Oh yes chopsticks and sushi
All this is seen from a westerner’s
Vantage point
Without much knowledge
Haiku poetry
Shogun was very important to us
Samurais, Budo wrestling
Ninjas
Buddha
Honestly gracious women
The atom bomb in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Oh no
Well you have done better than most
And now
We are all hoping and praying for you
Please make it through all this
You shall overcome
Wonderful children of the century
We love you
Japan

I like this, the wry honesty of our scanty knowledge of an ancient and complex culture is marked by sparse imagery, but a humane bond established in your close. atb L xx

This is beautiful, yet sad at the same time. You captured Japan's culture, prosperity, history and suffering in such a short piece. I applaud you for showing love to a country which is going through a lot of pain right now.

Seashore ,Fatboy and Tina
thank you all for reading this. It is very important that we keep spirits up for the Japanese people- even if the news tires of the catastrophe. We must never forget them in their days and weeks of need. I have submitted the same poem for Japan aid from Red Cross- why don't you do the same? the link is here on the site.
am really glad that you all commented- thank you

A very zen poem, Pia. I've never been to Japan either, but would love to see its beauty for myself too.

Hi Magic- yes I saw a program on the telly where they showed the cherry trees blossoming in speed up motion. There are so many in their countryside. It was really beautiful and I have the impression that the Japanese on the whole are very zen people.
Thanks for reading and commenting on this.
