No one can be happy all of the time.
What wonders me is
why the foreboding feeling
that I may be struck by lightning?
Why I am wary of this happiness?
Why I am expecting the worst to happen?
When happiness is at it’s peak
it’s as though the devil himself
taps me on the shoulder and makes me remember that
I am only mortal.
I suppose that is the essence
of the great philosophies,
that happiness doesn’t come to stay
but that we are like trees,
stripped of foliage
in an autumn storm.
Stripped naked by merciless nature.
We are like those trees ,
stripped bare
of all cover and protection
from the raging storms of winter.
The winter is our happiness,
freezing and waiting for the spring,
to unfold its sweet merciful buds
and become happiness
in just a moment.
I grab that moment with
all my might
and hang on to it
even though I am wary
of being mortal.

Really enjoyed this Pia, like that image:
We are like those trees ,
stripped bare
of all cover and protection
from the raging storms of winter.
Seems like at the minute you are spending a lot of time thinking about the big questions(?) and this is finding its way into your poems. Felt too late to comment on Diversity, but well done on a brave write. :-)

Hello Pia,
this is one of your best poems, you have put so much
emotion into it. Winter can be a hard time, but with
strength and perseverance, there is nothing that we
cannot overcome. Thankyou for sharing your feelings.
Jenny.

like the naturalism (indifferent reality) present in the piece. especially liked the comparison to trees in an 'autumn storm'. although the piece starts off relatively dark, it maintains poetic flow and still has organic beauty..
cheers

Love your use of nature, specifically: The winter is our happiness, freezing and waiting for the spring.

Exposed to the elements indeed! That human disposition of undeserved happiness. Some people feel so undeserving that moments of happiness actually cause them pain.
I loved this
