Smiling

Time passed way too quickly
More than 25 years had gone
Each birthday was a witness
To her downfall
Until
It wasn’t too late
Nevertheless
Precious moments had been lost
In search of affirmation
And security was a joke about being
Co-dependant
So she blamed herself for being blind
Trying to figure out what love was
Wisdom, knowledge and experience
Come from making bad decisions
She had quietly followed the flow
Of the course of events
Each time thinking that this was it
But it never was
Until
It wasn’t too late
She had just wasted a lot of precious time
Her time, her children’s time
Her siblings stood by and watched her
Falling again and again
And could do nothing
They were angry for more than 25 years
But then she stopped,
Assessed the past and threw off her shackles
It wasn’t too late
So she wanted to start over again
She had to start somewhere
So she began to smile a lot
At the simplicity of it all
It wasn’t so difficult
No great ambitions
All she had to do was relax
And breathe freely
Deselect the sour grapes
Forgiving herself she learned to live
With her state of mind
She decided to keep smiling
It really wasn’t that bad at all
