Last week I wrote a story
I though it of my best,
I published it on "ABC…"
Its calibre to test.
So very few have read it
Of comments there's but one,
Alas it earned no 'cherry'
What more could I have done?
I have scant comprehension
Of what's considered good,
If they made a wand for writers
I'd buy one if I could.
To write can be quite trying
Oft there's no reward,
I feel like a striker
Who's very seldom scored.
I think a change of tactic
Is what my ego needs,
I'll just enjoy the writing
Not worry 'bout the reads.
I will not write for plaudits
For 'cherries' or for praise,
I will not write for money
For no one ever pays.
I'll write just for the pleasure
Of prose and poems done,
Won't fret about an audience
I'm writing just for FUN!!

Nice rhymes, outlining abc's crimes, no cherry, make or take one and be merry.

And that indeed is the best attitude to have i think, when submitting work on here or any site gives out award trinkets.
The cherry givers aren't literary gods, they're normal people like the rest of us , prone to mistakes and even having bad taste. Some even enjoy Terry and June and Elo and vote for the Tories!!
The ability to write doesn't necessarily mean they have the same ability to spot the outstanding stuff from the average, it can be a matter of taste sometimes.
Write for fun and be creative all the time, worry not about about an overrated piece of fruit. Even take a cherried piece of work, re-write the bleeder to try an improve it , ruin it and lose the cherry altogether, which is something i somehow managed this week. :o(
Nice wee poem by the way.

Thank you celticman and flash, both for the reading and the commenting.
Oh cruel irony, no sooner do I pledge not to write for cherries then along comes a cherry!
Thanks again.

We've all been there Kheldar but you had the courage to turn it on its head and bingo!

I did exactly the same thing with "How to get published". I think I had two reads and cettainly no cherry.

I wholeheartedly agree with the comments made by Flash. Yep we've all been there Khelda but you have gone and written really well about it. Well done for the Cherry!

I love your poem and if you ever find a wand for writers I would appreciate you waving it for me too.

Perfect sentiments, David! You know, if you write purely for pleasure I think you'll find your writing becomes so luminous the cherries will soon follow ;)

Congrats on the well-deserved cherry. I figured out a few years back that it's far better to write for pleasure, and fun and personal fullfilment and... Well I think you get the message. I also truly believe that if only one person in the entire universe reads a short story I had written and thought it was good, then that was a major accomplishment. Bye the way, I still feel that way! And if no one does, then I'll simply write another and enjoy every minute of the creative process.

Thank you so much Kahdai. I guess self belief is a very good place to start - having said that I'm sure I'm not alone in enjoying your work!
