You are too showy
you know that don't you
how can I concentrate
with your gleaming baubles
flamboyantly plastic
pointing my way.
Every year I venture
into darkness
the metal ladder
digging in my side
I can never remember
the position we left you
I have to feel and touch
as the air freezes my soul
at last you are found
and carefully dropped
to the ground.
Three sections bottom
middle top for the star
green shiny pine needles
scatter on the floor
as you are assembled
wating patiently
to be dressed with tinsel
red, green, golden spheres
teddybears, snowmen
and a cardboard thing
made at school years ago
kept religiously for fear
of rebuff from gentle hands
that at last have learnt
a more tasteful way
of how to adorn
your sticky out branches.
Yes you are majestic
standing in your corner
I will just have to turn
and reposition
so that I face the other way.

Oh Oldwarrior you are a brilliant writer, have just looked at some of your work, it's brilliant, you must remember everyone has different styles and different tastes. Seems like you have a mountain of tales to tell you are very lucky :)

I have just stumbled across this one and really like the way it is written. I think I've said this before - you have a very individual, quirky style that works well.
