Blagdon Lake in Winter

Silver skies. Ephemeral light

glints on Blagdon Lake.

The geese are gone now.

I hear echoes of wind chimes

Dreams lured in quiescence.

Snow falls as silent wonder  

Forests ice-pines in winter’s embrace.

We watch the distant water.

Thoughts of Christmas….

And tell stories wordlessly as a storm

Gathers.

Thanks for reading, JPB. The poem is a tribute to the poet Louise Gluck who died on October 13th so a couple of weeks ago. It's based on her work called "Early December in Croton-on-Hudson". It's hard to do her justice as she was so brilliant/wonderful.

In Bulgaria some of our geese are still here but the lakes have just about gone. Will we ever have rain again?

Oh thanks for reading it, Jane. I've stayed in Blagdon on two occasions whilst on holiday in Somerset. It's an adorable village surrounded by stunning countryside. Highly recommended :)
