from the ABC set You're O.K, I'm not O.K

...that we'd go to Gretna green
even though, officially, it would be bigamy,
and we'd live in a tiny bare studio flat and
spend rainy saturdays on the sofa bed
watching each other read,
and in summer we would go on picnics
with bread and rough wine,
dozing in uncut hay meadows,
I even bought underwear...
after you'd kissed me

You did the very best thing that a poet could ever do: told a first-rate story (along the lines of George Elliot's thousand-page Middlemarch) in ten succint lines.
