What Summer

from the ABC set shamrock's ramblings

An icy crunch, underfoot, is just a step away.
The undersize apples, hang from the near leafless branches,
like a collection of aged, empty scrotums.

A sky, of burnt ash, oversees the lack of festivities,
played out upon an Irish landscape, while the artist's easel,
holds canvasses, coloured by imagination.

Interesting choice of simile with those apples, Chris ;) Really love the two-stanza split structure - and the weather isn't much better here in Yorkshire!

you wouldn't want to eat those apples. Nice imagery. the weather hasn't been better in Denmark either.

scrotums doesn't need an apostrophe. (I never imagined I'd ever find an opportunity to write that sentence). It's been a shit summer all round I think

You perfectly and uniquely put into words what we're all feeling!

leave it to 3leaf to find a way to use scrotum poetically. the second stanza is quite good.

Very poetically lol! I think its made up by all the other lovely images, the burnt-ash sky & I especially like canvasses, coloured by imagination! I often dream about living in a warmer country, yet I know I would miss all the rain! K
