If Love Were Banned...(I.P.)

Where would all the lovebirds go?
Would they fly forever, aimlessly;
nowhere to land? And loveseats;
would they be hacked apart; two
halves, never to be whole again?
If Love were banned...
love-potions of the Nile; would we
tip them down the sink, and let Viagra
start where they left off? Love-songs,
would have to be unsung...un-played,
and a lovechild, left to manage for itself.
If Love were banned...
how would we end letters...to friends,
husbands, wives, and others? ‘Faithfully
yours’, would have to suffice. What of Cupid
and his bow? Made redundant, no less
as would, Venus, Aphrodite and Eros.
If Love were banned...
would be like Niagara Falls without
its water...a kite that’s lost its string –
the desert minus sand. And for mankind –
life – not worth the living, hearts –
not worth the giving, and the world,
would be no world, at all.
If Love were banned...
