An irritating scheme or scam–
the emails wind up
regularly in my ‘Spam’ –
another name, not mine
appears, though my address
is hijacked.

I haven’t signed up
for their offers,
but it seems
to unsubscribe (sign out)
you must first properly
subscribe (sign in)
– what a twist-about???
and,
that,
I think,
might open up a link
to viral trouble
so,
just let them get sunk
into Junk,
stashed in Trash
until Spam is deleted –
their ploys defeated?

Ha, ha!! Makes you realise how easily one can be taken in. Not that I like lotteries anyway, and poor ABC!

Now would it have been because this was my 1000th story on ABC?!

How very apt Rhiannon, we really didn't sign up for it any of us. 'Do you want spam with that? No thanks..' I wouldn't mind but the junk snail mail continues to arrive aswell. I love the last two lines. Congratulations on your 1000th contribution. A+ Keep up the good work!

I get very little into my spam folder apart from this one 'service' and when Data Protection came in I wondered if it would stop or be stoppable, but it doesn't seem to be. Oh, well, waste of their energies! How my fairly unusual email address got associated with some other name, I've no idea. Rhiannon

Congratulations on 1000 pieces of writing, what an achievement! Reading your work has tought me a lot about using alliteration and rhythm, and your comments are the perfect example of how to give encouraging feedback

Congrats from me too on the milestone, Rhiannon!  I loved this piece.  It is, as you say, infuriating to have to 'unsubscribe' from something you never knew you'd subscribed to in the first place.

Thanks, Airy. I gather that  as I hadn't ever really subscribed, if I tried to unsubscribe, and in so doing first subscribed properly, they would have got more details and probably kept them! Leave alone, and never link to unknown links! Rhiannon

yes, it's all very stressful! your poem is a good reminder to be careful, specially about bank details. But there's these bit coin miners now too, who get into your computer and slow it down because they are using it at the same time. I should print your poem out and stick it on the wall next to the computer as a warning :0)

I hope you don't have any problems! Isn't it sad that so many have such talents that they are wasted on scamming and hacking, and could be doing something helpful and useful instead? Rhiannon

Had to congratulate you on reaching 1000 pieces of work.  What an achievement.  I remember Tina reaching that milestone too.  This poem was up to your usual standard.  Clever and insightful.

No, Rhiannonw, I haven't had any contact either but whenever I get to come on the site I always look to see if she has posted anything.

I hope she and her husband are okay though.
