"Blackbird singing in the dead of night. . ." IP

You can't see him
but he is to be heard
during the Spring and early Summer
it is a mating call
so beautiful is his song
when it is darkest before dawn
the song is a harbinger
of new life
and pleasant skies
of warm winds
and smiling eyes
far away from winter's bitter cold
the Blackbird
sings with all his soul
now that Midsummer has passed
he still sings but with
less enthusiasm
and not as melodic
the song doesn't last long either
but I wake early
solely to listen
before the days hustle and bustle
the quietude of the morning and then
a solo aria of wonderous pitch
so perfect
as only Mother nature is capable of

The Beatles

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night."

This is lovely, Pia, and I like the title; an equally lovely song;-)

I too hear the blackbirds at first light...and at last light, incidentally, when their alarm-calls, seem to go on and on.

You capture such a peaceful atmosphere with your words I really admire.

Tina;-)

Love the Beatles song and your poem does it justice. Beautiful yet poignant. I particularly liked `When it is darkest before dawn, the song is a harbinger of new life...'A treat to read Pia.

Very enjoyable read with a touch of melancholy very akin to the song (one of my Beatles favourites).

Nice one Pia!

Highhat | July 2, 2011 - 06:54

Yes Coral- the melancholy comes when we get to Autumn and the blackbird doesn't sing so much. Thanks for reading. I love the Beatles song-it is defintely my favourite.
