ABCtales October 1st Newsletter - two new comps and much more!
Dear ABCtalers,
No Newsletter for ages but this one has heaps and heaps in it – so do try and read to the bottom!
We are very pleased to announce two cracking new competitions. The Serial Thriller Comp is in association with SHOTS and the final judge is Lee Child. He will introduce the winner’s work to his agent and publisher and the winner’s ten part cliff hanging thriller will be recorded for use on ABCtalesRadio.
Full details can be found here: http://www.abctales.com/node/587321
The second new comp is The Children’s Radio Prize. We’ve teamed up with Susan Stranks’ abracadabra! Radio service to get you to write stories for the 6-11 year old market. The 10 winning entries will be recorded and put out on Susan’s wonderful radio service as well as going on to ABCtalesRadio. The overall winner will also get an EVOKE Pure Flow digital internet radio. The final judge of this one is the acclaimed Children’s Author, Miriam Moss.

The next big bit of news is that ABCtales Editor Tony Cook is the guest Editor of The Big Issue for the October 12th edition. This will feature stories and poems from the site – purplehaze, chelseyflood, dilettante, Nicola 6, Jennifer, mcmanaman, chant, rioja, camilla, markbrown and bukharinwasmyfavouritebolshevik all get published. There’s articles from DavidK, Tony Cook, spack and rokkitnite and it’s all a celebration of writing on the internet. I’m sure you all buy The Big Issue every week but do make sure to get it that week in particular. It’s the edition that covers all of England except the Manchester area. Scotland and Wales get their own editions. If you have any problems getting hold of a copy and want one then please contact me at tcook@abctales.com.
The wonderful ABCtales magazine has been coming out for some time now – there are a series of guest editors coming through at the moment but the driving force behind it has always been the wilkybarkid. We are going to have a bumper Christmas edition and wilky wants your entries. It’s a joint enterprise with UK Authors – and they’ve got behind it big time. We’ve been a bit slow and it’s an edition that demands and deserves your attention. Please send in your contributions as soon as possible.

Two more ABCtalers have great books out. Rokkinite (Tim Clare) has We Can’t All Be Astronauts out from Ebury Press. It’s the story of how he couldn’t get published when all of his mates were making the big time – a ‘must read’ for all aspiring authors.
Mcmanaman (John Osborne) had his Radio Head (Simon and Schuster) picked as the Radio 4 Book of the Week. It’s a cracking read as well and I can heartily recommend it to you all.

Finally we’ve got some great stories and poems on ABCtalesRadio – but we could do with more! We do realise that it costs to put them on there but you do reach out to an audience of thousands. It’s a fine way to add an extra dimension to your writing and to reach an ever larger audience. Here’s how you can get your story on ABCtalesRadio:

Tony Cook and the ABCtales team.
