OK, OK, here I am! I was out last night walking Andy Goldsworthy's Moonlit Path at Petworth - a magical experience, despite my complete lack of cranial foliage. Sabelle, just to explain, I am totally, completely and utterly bald. I lost all my hair after a skiing accident when I was in my mid 30s. It took about six months for it all to go - and, I admit, it was slightly traumatic experience. However, my wife said she still fancied me and was incredibly supportive throughout. A lot of other people around me were also very understanding. The 'Duncan Goodhew' jibes from builders, the inevitable kiddie in the supermarket who goes 'That man's got no hair' as his mother clips him round the ear - these things take longer to get used to. I also comforted myself with the thought that after all the crazy things I have done in my life the loss of hair was a small price to be asked to pay. I have since more than come to terms with it. I am very comfortable with it. I'm not saying I wouldn't have my hair back if I had the offer and when I dream of myself I often still have hair - but I wear my dome with pride. Nowadays so many men with premature baldness shave the lot off - and I think they look good like that. I know that a lot of women find it attractive. OK, so I've had to go considerably further - no eyebrows, no eyelashes, no internal hairs, no hair anywhere - but most people don't have to cope with that! Tell your old man that you love him whatever - that you find his baldness to be distinguished, sexy, mature (but tell the truth!) - don't allow him to do a Bobby Charlton or wear a wig - they look ridiculous. He could have got cancer, he could be seriously injured in a road accident - as far as I know he isn't. A bit of hair loss is not much to bear in this life of tears. Just give him a big hug and tell him it's all OK!

An ex of mine started to go prematurely bald at 28.. he shaved it almost all off, and looked absolutely GORGEOUS.. the three strander hamlet advert is a no no though.. how horrid is that?

I think it looks great. Ok, not on William Hague, but on most men, shaved heads whether balding or not look really good. My boy had fabulous long curly locks when we met - the kind of hair that women would die for - and shaved it all off a few years ago when he started to thin on top. I begged him not to but he looks even more gorgeous now than ever. I'm all for it.

I never met, or even heard of, a bald man that didn't wish he had hair.

I know why Tony likes his head. You can chop a line on it, strike a match and take notes in a meeting. The downside is that when he's having a drink with Duncan Goodhew and Harry Hill they get miustaken for Fylingdales.

I agree with Hox, Liana & Rachel. Bald is gorgeous, that why I wondered why guys worry about it so much. Bald, young and rich, what a combination!!!!! Well Tony, I'll tell my hubby 1 out of 3's not bad. He's not young or rich.
