top movie moments

At the moment Willy Wonka places his hand over the everlasting gobstopper and says "So shines a good deed in a weary world", i always wipe away a tear. It's my top movie moment, just pipping Lara's farewell ride across the snow on the sledge covered in furs, leaving Zhivago standing clawing a hole in the iced window for a final look.

*sigh*

Any more top moments?

Bogart telling Bacall to leave without him at the end of Casablanca Peter Sellers as Clouseau practising on the parallel bars in Return of the Pink Panther Liam Neeson as Michael Collins "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me". Kenneth Williams as Ceasar in Carry on Cleo. A whole genre of British comedy summed up in one line. [%sig%]

I'm still brain-dead and can't think for toffee - but I was disappointed that "The Eagles Are Comming!" didn't have the impact in the film that it had in the book. Not really a top moment but I was delighted by Sarah Jessica Parker's energetic performance in L.A. Story and surprised how much less 'horse-faced' she looked in the early 90's. Steve Martin's character comments that there is something strange about her breast and she replies "Yes, they're real." :o) For me how good a film is depends hugely on how I feel at the time.

Anger Management. The Adam Sandlar bit where he realises it was all a set up. That bit was ice baby- coooool.

The bit in 'Billy Elliot' where he reads out the letter from his mum and it says 'just be yourself'. And against all adversity, he is. And his family are proud of him! Amazing film. Sob.

I'm currently watching "As Good As It Gets" and it's chock full of top moments - and we complain about the NHS. Does Johnny Depp do an uncredited cameo as the artist's model (with the hoodulum friends)?

In the arena when they are being attacked by monsters and Annekin says they've come to rescue him, Ewan MacGregor says "Good job" And, Ewan MacGregor's face when they are in that flying car I like Ewan MacGregor... Also, there was a film on telly AGES ago called All For Love, with Richard E Grant, which was a spoof romance based on a short story by Robert Louis Stevenson (hope that's spelled right) which is my favourite film ever as it was so funny In Danton, when he is in the courtroom arguing his case, just before they take him away Strictly Ballroom's one of my fave films too. I love the bit where the Dad dances alone, it is so sad, but so good to know he DOES dance how he wants when Johnnie Depp steps off the boat just as it sinks in Pirates of the Carribean Inspector Clouseau's bafflement when others can't understand what he's saying eg "Mirths" "Mirths?" "Mirths" "Mirths??" "Mirths, yis, mirths!"

I almost mentioned the Johhny Depp one, Fey - it sets the tone for the whole film. There a lovely scence in "Eternal Sunshine..." where they both realise that they are doomed to split up again but they don't care because they realise that it's worth it ;o)

There's a wonderful moment in Day Of The Iguana where Richard Burton's failed priest cum tour guide character stops a friend from defending him. The friend wants to tell his attacker a few home truths but he stops this because he realises that the woman, who is doing everything she possibly can to ruin his life, could not deal with the truth and it would destroy her. Of course there are other people around that couldn't recognise the truth about themselves if it bit them on the ass - but that's a different film ;o) [%sig%]

Come to think of it I think it's "Night Of The Iguana".

Amazon : "The Night of the Iguana may be Richard Burton's finest hour on the screen: beautifully cast as an anguished, defrocked reverend, doomed to his own purgatory in Mexico as tour guide to a group of nattering biddies." Yes, I'm sure now, Flash :)

I can't believe that no one has come up with this one. Taxi Driver. Robert De Niro looking at his reflection in the mirror and repeating over and over "You looking at me? who you looking at?" With varying degrees of menace. Also in the same film where he's staring at the television and he puts his foot on the screen and ever-------so----------slowly pushes said television until it crashes on it's back. But of course the top movie moment is the whole of Taxi Driver. [%sig%]

Imitation of Life- the one with Lana Turner when SaraJane's mother goes to vegas to see her and she tells her roommate that her mother is her nanny. that whole scene leaves me a balling and especially the end when her mother dies and Mahalia Jackson is singing and she runs up to the casket **choke**choke** Also I loved Chocolat the end when Johnny Depp comes back

"Blade Runner: R.H's final act and last words before terminating on the roof top!" That was the first one that came to my mind... The pulp fiction scene with the overdosed Uma Thurman being administered a jab into the heart. There is the final unexpected scenes in 'Breaking the Waves' which to reveal here will spoil the story for those yet to see it.

Love the scene in "The Full Monty" where the fat guy, Dave, is secretly practicing his stripping out in the shed and his frustrated wife finds his posing pouch and thinks he's got another woman. He eventually admits what he's up to and says something to the effect of "But who wants to see a fat b*stard like me stripping on stage?" "I do, Dave, I do!" she says.

Kid up to no good (he's just been shot with a staple gun by a cool, punk, female, shop assistant) "You missed my eye by an inch!" "Haff" (sic) " she replies. Kid runs out of store.

The bit in True Grit where John Wayne puts the reigns in his teeth so he can charge with a shotgun in both hands. The entire monologue in Blazing saddles which ends with Gene Wilder shouting.. "Little bastard shot me in the ass!!" Richard Dreyfuss saying "don't wait for me!" in Jaws. "NOBODY is to throw ANYTHING until I blow this whistle.. not even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, if they DO say Jehova!" The bit where Dumbo falls asleep in the trunk of his caged mother. (I'm actually crying now just typing it!) the scene in Raging Bull where De Niro is old and fat and walks out into the blazing sunlight after just being woken by the cops about an underage girl in his bar. as he approaches the car he has to pull his pants up and does so by sticking his thumbs in his belt and sliding them round his waist. My dad was very fat and this was how he had to pull his pants up, you have to be fat for a long time to get it just right and Bob had it down perfect. the guy's a genius.

any moment in Freddy Got Fingered. Especially when the customer in the burger joint asks "what I am supposed to do with all this cheese?" And Freddy squeaks, "well, you could stick it up your bum bum." A classic moment indeed.
