all night
Once again I have stayed up all night and I am not too pleased with myself about it.
I usually make a point of not posting on these forums between 1 and 6 am just so it gives the impression I go to bed. Someone once commented on the lateness of a post, and since then i have paid attention to my image in that way. But really, what the fuckle!
The bad thing is that I was planning to get up at 7, and have lots to do tomorrow.
The good thing is that during the staying up I somehow put the plunger in and unblocked my mental machine. I have written something at last! But it's probably crap, like ramblings. And I havent touched a drop. It just feels that way.
i get too nervous and anxious in the rapid shoot-em games.
I love sim games as you get time to think about it.
I've only stayed up all night a couple of times (apart from when travelling) and I found that later on the day I just fall asleep, I become very agitated if I dont have at least three hours sleep. :)
not surprising when you think everyone's supposed to get 9 hours sleep.
I will just have to take catnaps at some point today, otherwise I will start forgetting important things, like people's names.
I often pull all-nighters, and consider myself more of a night person than a day person anyway. I'm generally at my most efficient and effective in the middle of the night, which is a shame, because there's nothing for me to do then except write and play computer games. During the day I tend to wander around in a dream-like state, walking into things, slamming my fingers into lift doors and being forgetful.
Of course that could all be a by-product of sitting up all night on the playstation.
I was told that the natural sleep pattern for humans is 2 - 3 hours sleep every 12 hours. We have developed a once per day sleep pattern and believe that eight hours in one go will do us for another 16 but it's actually far better to do it in smaller bits. If you get two hours at midday and three at night you will be fresher and your body clock will thank you for it.
saying that, it's a bugger getting used to and it's only after a few weeks of doing it that you get into it properly but it's worth it. you can party all night and get up, fresh as a daisy for work as long as you can find time to fit two solid hours of REM in at lunchtime. (It's how thw shiny happy people do it)
I reckon I need the 8 or 9 hours at night plus the hour or two lunch-time siesta. Bliss.
I have always perfered night time to day thats why a lot of
my posts are pm, when I was working and had to get up at
5am for 15ys early morning cleaning I had to get to bed, my
age then was 68 to 72 which was when I finely gave up a life
time of diffident jobs and retired.
I can relate to Ari as I'm at my very best at night always
have been, there are so many more exciting things around
and go on at night, day time for me has always been quite
dull and even though I don't go out much now to get to bed
by 4am is quite early for me and I only need 4 hours sleep
before I'm awake.
Saturday just gone someone who I knew rang me about 1am
they had been drinking but wern't drunk the conversation
didn't finish til 6am because they at to get up for kids, I went
back to my computer to finish what I was in the middle of
when the phone rang, I finely climbed into my bed at 8.30am
read some of my book til it fell on the floor because by then I
was dead to the world then woke up at 11:30am and got up,
living on your own has got some advantage.
Ari - you mentioned computer games and playstation. This is one of my vices. The act of writing itself can tire me out, in a nice way. And I can get the sleep of the righteous after that, if only I didn't set myself a couple of goes on a game as a kind of dumb reward!
As you know there isn't such a thing as a couple of goes. I just keep on and on trying to get to the next level, and before I know it, the adrenalin is pumping around and then i need a coffee. Not just one coffee, i think you get the picture ..........
The worst part of it is that i only like a particular kind of game which most kids would find boring, which is Tetris and anything like that, shape sorting games, with really repetetive muzak. There is another stupid game called Overflow which is about plumbing and pipes. I am such an idiot.
I recall a few years ago I got very much into the habit of playing a space combat sim called Wing Commander III and then IV. The whole point was that I would start a new mission at six and carry on till completing missions till I was knackered sometimes to 2am, drinking beer all the time, some of the missions became true wonders.
But I was a bit younger then and I dont play any games at all. I dont own a playstation either :)
My souvinirs include some great memories of battles in space and a completely fubar joystick. :)
I love games like Resident Evil and Alone In The Dark. Best games ever are the Legacy of Kain series - they rule!
I stay up all night and never sleep. I am an expert at every playstation game ever invented. I have intimate relationships with with women on-line who are, in reality, probably called brian and have tattoos on their penis' that says 'still very small' when erect. I have a loving wife, 6 kids and a menagerie of animals that were due to be put down before I rescued them and now wish they had been. I am everyone's bestest friend and help old ladies across the road even if they had only paused to tie their incontinence pants a little tighter. I am not at all overbearing and never force myself upon others and I never brag about my rather high IQ (165!!!). (ssshhh) NO! I go to church on sunday and am all things to all people. Even athiest cocksucking devil's spawn. Other people are in the forefront of my mind which is why I started this sentence without 'I' for once. I have a wise opinion on every subject and light up all threads. I animate lifeless parties purely by my arrival. My presence is such that all are rendered speechless within minutes and hang themselves on my every word. I am a God of I cons. I never talk about myself and my favourite colour is black. I also am very honest and never talk utter bollocks.

i am often up all night ... but not through choice ...
*mutters darkly*
Grand Theft Auto - I used to love it. So imnmoral just ploughing people over and shooting. It's especially fun , like dodgems, as I don't drive
I watched my son playing GTA one day and he (or the character he was being) picked up a hooker. She was wearing a sort of mans jacket , thigh socks and heels. He left her pacing around in some lock up garage and went back to let her out at the end of the game. Makes me wonder how he's going to turn out............
i heard the same as ely, 6 hours in every 24 is correct... i sleep about 5 - 6, and feel fine on that. on the rare occasions i sleep longer, i feel like crap. when i was pre kids, i used to sleep for 8 or 9,but i guess i got out of the habit. anyway, there arent enough hours in the day already, i always think..
Oh, I can play Tetris for days on end, if I don't get interupted.
Although mostly, I don't sit on the playstation all night, I do inane thinks, like rearrange the draws under my bed, or count all my CDs, books and pairs of earrings, or sort out my wardrobe. Last night I sat up til around 1am writing down all the words I could think of that rhymed with "bottle".
I have a theory that the computer games which particularly attract me are basically about being in control and tidying up.
A couple of times I've tried to take this feeling away with me from the computer and apply it to everyday life, like making the phonecalls and doing all the jobs on my list. With only moderate success.
I am now sleeping between midnight and six am so I average about six hours.
I don't know what it is, but I can never get myself into those shoot-em-up games, or racing games. They're always games in which I control people and/or empires (Civilization, CaesarIII, The Sims). Either that, or it's a Myst clone.
