Being Human Festival

Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, begins today and runs until 15 November 2025.

Our festival theme 'Between the Lines' invites researchers to explore boundaries, crossings and intersections – the spaces in between, where meaning is made and remade. We'll retrace erased histories, bring marginalised voices to the fore and unearth surprising stories and forgotten footsteps.

With over 220 events taking place in 39 towns and cities across the UK, from poetry to prosthetics and Cockney culture to cooking - there is something to suit everyone. Events are booking up fast, but there’s still lots to discover! Let us know where you go and what you see, and share your photos on social media using the hashtag #BeingHuman2025

A celebration of humanities research through public engagement, it is led by the School of Advanced Study

The University of London, the UK’s national centre for the pursuit, support and promotion of research in the humanities.Every year we help researchers in the humanities – from literature and history, languages and philosophy, art history and classics, and more – produce enjoyable events for public audiences that emphasise working with local communities to share ideas for mutual benefit.

The festival aims to: demonstrate the value and relevance of humanities research to society in the UK and globally, encourage, support and create opportunities for researchers to engage with non-specialist audiences  and join together public engagement activities in the humanities across the higher education (HE) sector.
