Brain Transplant
It should only be about 50 years before we're able to do full brain transplants. (By "we" I don't mean you and I but clever surgeon type blokes). Anyway, I was wondering, if you had a brain transplant, would you also get the other guy's memories as well? In fact, would he think he was you? Like one minute he's out for a Sunday afternoon drive on his motorcycle and the next thing he knows he's inhabiting the body of a little old lady who used to suffer from alzheimers.
No, I'll tell you what I have, I have a brain that a clone teletransported and I don't know where to transplant it! ;)
how can any body be sure if brain transplants are possible or not. Most people thought that men(human beings) could not fly, but we did. Most people thought that we could not land on the moon, but we did and soon we might land on mars. Personally I think anything is possible, we just have to experiment and keep trying.
Now, what about the soul? when a person dies do the memories stay in the brain? Do they just die? Or does it go with the soul? Or what if the brain really didn't hold the memories; what if it was just the soul that remembers? The brain could just be the main part of the nervous system, an organ that controls correct function of the body like the heart and lungs.
Ok, lets say that the brain did hold the memories. Once a part of the brain is transplanted correctly the person may have the memories of the one who died, but at least that person will still be able to make new memories and still have their own personality.
Now get serious. Get back on the brain subject. Think it over.

Alzheimers is obviously a bad example Karl as it's a brain disorder, so it would be removed with the old brain. Also personality, character and talent would be that of the transplanted organ. To all intents and purposes the rest of the body is just a collection of tools that the brain uses, so the brain IS the person.
It therefore follows that a brain transplant is not possible.
But a body transplant IS.
a gooey topic

Yes, and one minute you would be driving along minding your own business and then the next you would think you were driving a knackered old Mondeo cab, start leaning out of the window shouting "Hey there love, nice arse shame about the face" or something. And, imagine if you were thin with great hair and a sense of humour and suddenly ended up fat and bald with boils on your neck.
Never fear Pav, love - we will be very choosy about the bodies.
Hey Pav, how are you? I've got both you and Dartford on my case tonight and I don't know what I've done to deserve it. Adds a little bit of spice though, doesn't it?
And talking of adding spice, why don't you chuck a little more over those pies you've been scoffing all night.
Eat those pies, Pav, eat those pies. Itll take a lot more than bulimia to sort your sweaty lard-arse out, won't it?
You ate all the pies Mr. Wiggins, there aren't any left for me.
now now kiddies, lets play nice. I suggest you look towards the back of the crowd if you want to see who's been shouting 'fight'.
as for brain transplants, I also believe that the soul is in the consciousness and that lives in the brain so we are our brains and the rest of us, as Missi says, is just a collection of tools and fuels.
["TOOLS AND FUELS" for all your brain desires. open bank holiday monday. terms and conditins apply. availability subjest to status.]
I've often wondered (well twice actually) if we could transplant small sections of the brain in sequence to see if we can narrow down the precise area that we live in as a consciousness. I understand that brain tissue and the cells that make it are unique in that they canot be recreated by the stem cells of the body and also that they take on the characterstics of the role required of them within the brain (so if you swapped two pieces then they'd do each others jobs after a bit) which would lead me to believe that a 'bit at a time' approach might not work as each new bit would adapt to the new brain and therefore absord a bit of the soul along with it.
... err, so there you go. Just thought it through and it wont work. well that was close, saved myself years of research there by just thinkin' it through. wish I'd done that before I bought all those sinclair C5s
subjest? like the joke behind the joke I suppose.

Here's a BRAIN Teaser for you guy's:

[%sig%]
Consciousness is in the brain...during our mortal lives ...I'd like to be transplanted into the body of a bloke cos i'm interested in what it feels like to have all that tackle swinging between legs constantly.
A more interesting question is about sexuality. If I woke up one day in a man's body I would still be me and fancy blokes ...not a gay man

swinging tackle?
If you really want to experience it Jude, just tape a bag of rocks to your crotch and walk around for a few hours.
If your brain was transplanted into a man's body you would still fancy men, but they'd mainly stop fancying you back I would guess.
As for the tackle, just slip a couple of cream eggs and a sausage into a mohair sock and then pack it into your knickers, there's very little in the way of 'swinging' unless you're a nudist tennis player, it's mainly just held in a cosy pair of uindies until you see a woman bending over at which point the sausage starts to inflate like a party balloon in a crisp packet and strips most of your pubic hair out in the process.
Well then, that was vivid! Can you send pictures?
Scientists perhaps will be able one day to teletransport or clone humans or clone humans while they are teletransporting them or teletransport people while they clone them and other really ridiculous things they have in mind, but they will never, EVER manage to transplant a Brain.
If soul and conscience co-exist in some area of our body or brain, and we could teletransport physical essences (as if it were a stone or even say, a rabbit), we will be only able to teletransport everything that is considered as "not having a soul (inorganic...no polarisation)"......if at all?
Yet even in this probabity of "the physical", we don't know the after-effects of molecular deconstruction nor reconstruction ( molecular extension needs to surpass or by-pass "The Vacuum", which is total deconstructionalism (nothingness) to begin with)......I mean, strewth, imagine if the rocks start breeding like rabbits and eat grass......we're doomed, lol?
If at all possible, all nurture factors (memory) will be negated totally: Genome fact...Dolly the sheep...time doesn't exist genetically!
So I guess the best and quickest way to go anywhere, and much much faster, is by riding a photon. Atoms are such slow little buggers...if we could physically see one of course?
Jasper: "Anyone for Cat on toast?"
Phantom: "Do rocks and rabbits ride motorbikes?"
Purple Turtle: "I saw a rocket scientist riding a fairy floss machine?"
Pissed Monkey: " Bloody fermented Banana's and whiskers!"
If brain transplants do become possible i think it is more likely that the brains would want to be transplanted into a machine that could virtually guarantee their existence for a very long time... I think it will turn out that the body if far more than just a machine that expresses the will of the occupying brain but I sincerely hope we never find out!
No need to hope on that one either, Smiley...they're not even warm...not ever?
Jasper, it's worth considering that the contents of the brain might be transferable into a type of computer without any need for a physical transplant. Maybe that would be possible on a limited scale...
Of course it's always possible that we are already in a computer in some Matrix like world and this is just an illusion to divert our attention while we help Homer run the nuclear power plant.
Have you got a bottle in your hand, Nicci?
So, if we can eventually teleport or transport or clone people, what's to stop us from teleporting/transporting part of a person into another person, say for example...a brain?
Yea...you got a bottle in your hands Nic?
