Favourite piece

You know when you're in a crowded bar, waiting to get served and the barman comes and you say, "This person was here before me" ?

A story/poem that in the event of some talent scout turning up, you would feel morally obliged to say, "No, you should read this one before one of mine. "

Or, if we are all too venal to ever do that, just your favourite piece on the site that isn't your own.

Rules :-

You can't nominate your own, or a relatives
Please give the reference address - just the S=XXXX in the address bar of the story/poem
Please say why you picked that particular piece

i wouldn't mind having written chant's "a room of my own" either ... (note to eds ... both stories i have picked languish cruelly uncherried)

Crikey ! I thought I'd pressed cherry on Chant's piece when I read it earlier this week - but having gone back, it hadn't worked. A very good piece of writing, and sorry that you didn't get the cherry first time of asking. A thank you to Fish might be in order.

http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=2934 its called ' a battle cry.' by deepthought I really like this piece cause it is real. The harsh realities of war and how tragic war is. How cold and savage human beings can be towards each other at times. How the guy your gonna shoot with the fatal bullet is a guy just like you with a family back home who love him. The grim fear when the enemy are coming at you with bullets and your having to kill in self-defence and sheer survival, the horror of war and the tragedy of war. The bit at the end sums it up really well. How if you look into an old persons eyes... they know about how precious life is and how short it is.. and how it is important to live life to the fullest. (There are so many stories on here I like... I may come back in a few days to this thread with some other pieces that I like).
