Slam Poetry

I'm probably the last to hear of Slam Poetry, as I am many things, but I heard about it this morning while driving to work. It seems it originated in the parts of America known to myself as "back east".

The poetry readings appear to have more a live concert feel, with members of the audience shouting out encouragement and actually being chosen to vote points.

Slam Poetry, from what I understand, started in Chicago, and for the most part the poems have an inner city feel to them.
