own page hit counter disabling

That feature doesn't exist in the current version of the site (hello, by the way - I'm John and my company built ABCtales.com for its owners). But if you think it would be a good idea, try telling them! And he's never clicked his own stories! Point taken and we should have disabled that facility by now!

Hi there fellow writers, Why would anyone want to rate their own submissions? Isn't the point of submitting material, to find out what other people think of your writing? I confess that I check on a regular basis and the "buzz" that I get when I get a genuine score rating is great, but come on now, even if I had arms like a gorilla the last person I would pat on the back would be myself. auntie jackie :>)

Hoi Auntie Jackie. Wasn't ratings - more 'clocking up a hit' when seeing *how* you've been rated - which I assume can only be done by viewing your own work as others would do. Obviously one wouldn't dream of rating oneself ;-)

Hello Bear (polar,teddy,brown?), What are you on??????? Did you not know that you can check how many viewers have read your work by viewing the visitors on the story list. If there has been a large jump then of course any writer worth their salt would be curious as to the rating or non ratings as the case may be. Your knowledge seems to be more proficient than mine of the ins and outs of ABC tales, so I therefore bow to your obvious superiority. auntie jackie :>(

Lets put this to bed: 1) You cannot rate your own story - you get a humerous message when you try as I did (purely in the interests of research of course!). 2) To view the "visitor list" you have to flog through the various catagories then find your story alphabetically - all of which takes time. OK if you only have one story up but some writers (not me) have prolific collections and I doubt if there are enough hours in the day for them to see how their work was rated should they wish to do so. It's far easier to go to your collection and click each story to check. But that counts as a hit. 3) Bear's question was valid and I'm sure we all look forward to the facility being disabled.

If the current reader rating was displayed along with the title and number of 'hits', on the index page, it wouldn't be necessary to go into the title to get feedback. Just an idea. Also I've noticed cherries come and go on the same work. Are they linked to the ratings, or do the editors just change their minds?

Co I think your idea is a good one. If we could see our cherries(or not) when we go into our list and the ratings, we would not have to hit every story or poem to find out how they are doing, and it would give us a true number of hits on our work. But I suspect there isn't much room to do that. The other thing I would like to mention, Someone said somewhere in the discussion group (I can't find it) that they couldn't understand why some work has such a high number of hits when its just been put on the sight. If you edit a piece of work and upgrade it. It automatically goes into the group of "last ten entered". Now if you have a story or a poem that has one hundred hits, when you upgrade it looks like you have been hitting your own work to make up the numbers. Lastley If you upgrade a cherried piece of work, when the work is placed back to the last ten items entered it will have lost its cherries. You need to e ABC and let them know and they put them back on for you. I have quite alot of work here now and it would be great if I could see at a glance how all my work has been graded and if they are cherry picked without hitting them individually. But folks you have to remember this site is only a baby, and these teething problems are bound to come up. Its only by discussing them will ABC know about any problems. ABC are doing a great job. And anyone that slags them off or is unhappy with the way they run things. or suspicious of thier motives should go elsewhere. There is too much moaning on this site by half. But I suppose you can please some of the people some of the time etc etc....... A
