The novel

I have this novel inside me screaming to get out. I know it is to be loosely based on my own experiences in life and every day i think right this is it just sit down today and let it flow, but, it seems that my inspiration just drys up when i get down to write it.

Any tips appreciated.

With my novel I'm writing at the moment I have written chapter outlines to help guide me. I can say "right I'll do this chapter this week" etc. That might not work for you though. When you leave writing for the day, always leave a sentence unfinished--this will help your flow the following day. (WRITE DAILY)--if you have breaks, it's easy to fall into a trap of not doing it at all. And it helps if you have a set time for your writing otherwise you can easily make 'excuses'. Of course the above doesn't help much if you can't get flowing initially. Not much I can advise apart from don't be scared of the page. JUST WRITE. Just do whatever comes into your head, whatever you're feeling. If it goes wrong? So what? Rewrite it later. And if you only get your inspiration when you're not sitting down at the comp, maybe carry a notebook around with you, and even jot down just a few key words to keep your juices flowing that you can look back on later. Hope I've been some help :)

Writing is work. Inspiration, to me, is a nice breeze. It comes and goes to refresh you and you want to write about it because it makes you feel good. Once you sit down, write for a full hour, whatever comes into your mind, even if you think it's terrible. Then, try to condense in a few sentences what the nature of the experience that you are trying to describe is. Make headers: "My trip with Dad, where he confessed that he had cancer, and humourously advised me never to smoke, imitating Yul Brynner (Did I spell that right?)" Then write about the experience. I agree with everything that Nitromoose has said also, but I want to stress that "flow" comes with focus.

Just go for it. Try not to over think. Just start your story off and see were it goes, if it turns out terrible it'll be much easier to correct ones you've already got the basis for your novel.
