Cold Turkey Writer!
Hi folks,
I don't know how many of you are like me, but I find it very easy to get distracted from writing. The internet has made it even easier. Ten words... twenty... hm... let's see what's trending on the news... oh, that looks like an interesting vid... etc. An hour or two later, and those twenty words are all I've managed - and they end up getting deleted because the concentration flow has gone. I've tried different ways around it, without much success. I've even thought about getting a typewriter again - but the clunking of the keys used to drive me (and the neighbours) crazy.
I've now happened on a solution that suits me perfectly. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. Checking in a magazine at lunch, I saw a review of Cold Turkey Writer - an app you can download which effectively turns your computer into a typewriter. Once opened, you have a choice of selecting a block of time or a word count - and the app will block the rest of the computer for either that amount of time or until you reach the word count. No games! No internet! No other distractions! You can then save the document, then cut and paste it into your normal text editor once Writer has let you out again.
There are two versions: Free and Pro. Pro is £11.99 for life, usable on all of your devices, and including a few additional features that aren't essential (though being able to toggle 'cut and paste' with your normal text editor as you go might be handy). But I've got the Free one. And it's great. I've actually managed 500 words today!
Here's the link to the download site if you want to check it out:
It looks really useful Harry - thank you for sharing!
sound like a great idea (in theory). I've never been to Turkey.
Me, either. I've heard it's not cold!
