T-shirts and favourite poems

Hi,

Been thinking more on this T-shirt thing, what with Christmas coming up and I wondered what you think of this idea.

Everyone on the site nominates their favourite short poems (let's say top 10) on the site.

We put the top 10 poems on to T-shirts (with the author's permission) along with the authors name and ABCtales logo. These are then sold through the site. Author gets commission on every one sold.

Would you buy one and if so, which poems would you like to see on the T-shirt (bear in mind that it will need to be a relatively short poem to fit!)

Cheers

Em

Gawd, Emily, you've shrunk... My thoughts exactly, Andrew! P'raps we could have the first bit (of story) on the front, with 'mf...' bottom right, and the rest on the back, eh Em? Sorted! I thought of one of Primate's too...one from his Animal Limerick set, perhaps. Although he is a very RUDE boy... *off to wade through reams of bloody poetry*

Forgot to say I'd buy one of course...

I agree, "Brittle stars" and I would like to nominate Treacle's "She looks at the bottle"

OK, buggered that up! It's at Cafepress Prices are in dollars but the conversion is as follows: $14.99 = £10.30 $15.99 = £10.99 $16.99 = £11.68 $17.99 = £12.37 $18.99 = £13.05 $20.99 = £14.43 $22.99 = £15.81 $24.99 = £17.18 The one problem is the shipping - $20 for first item (just over £13) and $5 thereafter (a much more reasonable £3) so I'd suggest teaming up with other ABCtalers who live near you and doing a bulk order then dividing shipping costs between you. If that's unfeasible for you, mail me and we can set up a centralised ABCtales order - ie, you send us cheques and once there are enough people to bring the costs down to a decent level, we'll place an order on the company credit card and mail the stuff out to you. Cheers Em

I need to photoshop them before they are ordered as they need to be put in the shop system before they can be bought (if that makes sense) But, OK... I may withdraw this offer if it takes too much time but if you want a T-shirt/mug/mousemat etc with a particular poem on it and you guarantee you'll buy it then e-mail me and I'll photoshop it for you. and put the image on the relevant item (see the shop for a full list of the items) Cheers Em

eddie's idea is a great one ... i don't have time to trawl through all the work of people i admire on here but people know their OWN work very well ... perhaps they could post the URL's of their own top 5 suitables and then others have a shortlist to choose from ...? let's not be coy duckies ...

good idea that. T-shorts has been submitted by "one-size" and I hear another post will be on later in the day. If one size were to put the url here it would help. I'm late otherwise I'd do it. bye bye

Tricky. I'd imagine around 20 lines would be the maximum for each side of the t-shirt - if you want to suggest some poems/prose, I can mock up some dummies on cafepress so you can judge for yourself. Cheers Em

I've lumped all mine in a single posting: http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewStory.cgi?s=11208 Some are more like slogans than poems, but they are definitely short enough for t-shirts. Some are short enough for cufflinks.

...it seems only fair after all! This was trickier than it looked as loads of my favourite poems were too long to fit on a t-shirt :( Maybe there could be ABCtrenchcoats next Christmas? But I got there in the end, so you ready pop-pickers? Not 'alf - let's rock! 1) Indian Curry Rhapsody by ali 2) Night Shift by Linsi 3) Holborn Station by Iris 4) A Beguiling Prof by Albrunker 5) Attempted lunchicide by markashley 6) Cheese Release Me by Sneak 7) Chop Suey by Bobblehat2000 8) Making Tea by Ivoryfishbone 9) Fridge and Jug by junior 10)Mummy And Daddy Have All The Best Toys by cariad

I'd have to vote for Primate. Almost any of his would be suitable.

If they are being printed to order, cant we just choose what we want when we order?

I've created a new ABC set called T-Shirt Shorts. I've put all the poems that I think might be suitable in a posting of the same name. Unfortunately, the poobumwilly rotweiler has swallowed it up for the moment. I suggest that other contributors put all their T-Shirt submissions in a single posting. This will make it easier for everyone to locate and select poems to vote for.

sorry these are late. the filter held them up for a good 24hrs. Strangely enough this meagre collection attracted a pg rating yet, individually all these pieces, some off the site now, only attracted U's. A collection more decadent than the sum of it's parts? http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=11283 It is proving very hard to come up with my own top 10 choices. There is an overwhelming amount of good work to choose from. oh, and if we are not playing anymore can you let me know so I can cease trawling the archives. cheers urb

vote for simon66... and i promise to think about spending some of the royalties (which i really really need) in that fantastic store - the body shop... and possibly in some of the wonderful affiliated companies linked for your convenience on this very site. (how am i doin' mgt?)... not only that, but i will stop killing dolphins and whales (possibly even kittens - although i do enjoy that quite a lot)... and that's a cast iron promise. remember, a vote for simon66 is a vote for YOU! ... a vote for simon66 is a vote for US ALL! eye thank ewe.

*serious* i'd like to nominate a piece of prose. it's called 'What You Said' and it's absolutely flippin' brilliant. i don't know who wrote it, but they'll go far. i'd buy twenty t-shirts myself so i could wear one every day of the month. blummin', flippin' BRILLIANT! eye thank ewe.

Only problem is that some muggins (ie, me!) has to photoshop them so they're graphics and I'm already doing business development and editing the site and dealing with all the info@abctales and mail@abctales e-mails (plus my own 600 e-mails per day) so being a graphic designer too would mean you had to wait months for replies to your e-mails. Please can I have some time for sleep - can't go much below the current 6 hours a night. And I may love you lot but cutting into my drinking time is going beyond tha pale....!

Bloody poets ! *Andrew tries to lobby Andrea into forming a Prose-Writers pressure group.* Cool idea *if you're a poet*. Eddie Gibbon's "Extract" is very short, and mighty fine. Some of Primate's would surely be suitable - Fish, Liana, poetjude. Could we have long-sleeved T-shirts for those who regularly send me disturbing poetry ? I will have a think of some more - I have a lot of fave poems, but need to check how long they are. *cheekily nominates own wildly unsuitable "Inflatable Date" *

If it was a *very* short piece of prose, we could try it - just worried it wouldn't be readable cos the font would be so small. But if there's a short bit of prose you love, feel free to recommend it Cheers Em

Dear Em Not wishing to blow my boys trumpet. 'Oxford Blue' is very short and cool. Some people quite like it I hear. He will be furious at me. Jane
