Good Casting, Bad Casting?

Who else watched 'A Very Social Secretary'?

Bernard Hill was brilliant as Sheffield's very own delta blues singer, Blind Boy Blunkett, BUT most of the others were bloody awful. I mean HOW could they cast an attractive woman as 'letterbox gob' Cherie Blair? And 'Boris' was hopeless too. Rory Bremner would have been a better choice to play Tone as well.

It would be interesting to get Blunkett's account of the shagging scene, I bet it wasn't as good as they portrayed it. They didn't even use the dog to point him in the right direction!

I saw it. Best line of the whole thing, for me, was when Blunkett said his dog needed taking out and his obnoxious secretary (who had previously been made to take dog for walkies in parliament square) said, "yeah, with a fucking smart bomb" or something like that. Agree that Boris was awful ... the real thing is more a characature than what was portrayed. Cherie was crap. I quite enjoyed Lindsay as Blair although I half expected the rest of 'my family' to burst in at any moment. Hill was brilliant! Apart from that, it was better than I expected it to be and it was yet another splendid spoof of our faux left wing government.

It's such an easy subject to send up. I wouldn't mind have seeing it dealt with differently. Perhaps making it into a thriller instead....
Doon as Cherie Blair was just wonderful, can't see what you mean Stormy. But she is absolutely great in everything, partic 'Smack the Pony'. Boris couldn't possibly hope to compete with the actual and very rael absurdity of Boris Johnson. Iy was a bit of a daft romp, that I really enjoyed. Great TV.
Yes Fergal, Cherie Blair as a cross-dressing double agent perhaps...
