The politics of cherrying
Did you know - when the editors read your work, they can see which other editors have read it. If an ed has already overlooked it for cherry status, the subsequent editors will not cherry it even if they'd like to; as this as seen as "overriding" or "undermining" the previous one.
They can choose to disregard this unwritten rule, and cover their tracks. But they prefer not to. Considered bad form.
I'm not here to say this sounds like silly political games. Or to oppose deliberate attempts to keep the cherry count down. (Scarcity is good: like with goals in football.)
Anyone experiencing a cherry drout though, may feel better knowing it's even harder to get a cherry than we thought. Having to impress one of a handful of editors seemed hard enough. But having to impress whichever editor happens upon it first ... phew.
And don't anyone post any crap about cherries not being important. We all care. Fact.
