A Subsequent Engagement by Philip Whiteland. Available to Pre-order Now!

If you, like me, are a fan of Phil Whiteland's very funny Bring Out Your Dead stories, you'll also be very pleased to hear that he's publishing another collection. Here's what he says:

Welcome, once more, to the rather odd world of Josiah Oakshott and Archibald Thurble, respectively owner and employee of Oakshott and Underwood, ‘understanding and sympathy at your time of need’.  If you’re new to these two characters, where have you been?  Their stories first appeared on the ABCTales website (and still do) and have since been collected into two books, ‘A Dubious Undertaking and other stories’, and ‘Grave Expectations’.

This, their third book of short stories, picks up from where we left them in Grave Expectations, very much in the throes of the oddities of the Covid restrictions and the heightened demand on their profession, and proceeds, through encounters with various eccentric clients, the bizarre leisure habits of Archibald’s nan and their respective on/off romances, to an outcome that will challenge both of them.

Each of these stories are self-contained and can be read in any order but there is a chronology that emerges as we go through the book, with certain themes being developed as we go along.  So, if you want to find out about the unfortunately named ‘Dick’s Doughnuts’ (and find out why his daughter’s takeover wasn’t an improvement), discover the ‘Rule of Sex’ and why it’s not a good idea to confuse Bowel Cancer Test Kits with a scratchcard,  why Absinthe does not necessarily make the heart grow fonder, the joys of ‘Invisible Cola’ and the potentiality of unwrapped Christmas Presents and a whole lot more, you could do worse than browse through the following pages.

It will be published on 1st February, 2024, initially as a Kindle e-book but with a paperback following soon after.  The e-book is available for pre-order, now.Welcome, once more, to the rather odd world of Josiah Oakshott and Archibald Thurble, respectively owner and employee of Oakshott and Underwood, ‘understanding and sympathy at your time of need’.  If you’re new to these two characters, where have you been?  Their stories first appeared on the ABCTales website (and still do) and have since been collected into two books, ‘A Dubious Undertaking and other stories’, and ‘Grave Expectations’.

Many thanks from me, Josiah and Archibald.  Hopefully we might get the word out to a few more potential cortege followers! wink
