Bus Pass and BPL Get Into Trouble
Posted by purplehaze on Fri, 28 Aug 2026
In June of 2024, Bus Pass Lady (BPL), in her wisdom, decided to take every Enid Blyton ‘Famous Five’ book title and write 300 words of Blytonesque Bus Pass adventures, usually bastardising said title in order to fit the purpose of said 300-word adventure. Ironically, there are five remaining titles, of the original twenty-one. However, Bus Pass and BPL have hit a spot of trouble. Following a grand Bus Adventure all the way to Glasgow and back, a roundtrip of some 404 miles, which took longer than a flight to Australia, BPL caught a nasty bout of Cicada Covid and swore off public transport for the foreseeable future. BPL has also, and for various, yet understandable, reasons, taken a spite against bus drivers. Especially the elderly ones who BPL reckons are too old to be driving at all nevermind be in charge of a bus, and who footer maddeningly, taking fully twenty minutes to change their ticket machine in the handover at MacDuff. Truthfully, BPL’s a bit bored with Blytonesqueness, and currently, doesn’t want to leave the house. Not even a trip to Turriff for a quick swirl around Tesco and the bus back all, satisfyingly, within the same hour. (Twenty minutes of which is mind-burstingly wasted at MacDuff changeover). Bus Pass is at a loss as to how to remedy the situation. Even tempting BPL with the offer of coffee and cake is currently off the cards. What to do?
Pastures new? This Autumn, Bus Pass and BPL plan to go to a cottage for a change of scene, and this out-rutting of BPL’s current stagnant routine, may just be what the Bus Pass ordered. Failing this, Bus Pass fears that the, now, four remaining titles, especially the one involving a hike, must wait some time for their adventures.
