Something 2008.

I've gained a friend,
No, not a kilo, a friend -
He's many a kilo and many a smile
in my future. I found him on the streets,
it was raining, I found him underneath a
bright blue banana umbrella. His eyes, they too
are blue (something I discovered the other day).

I've found a friend! A coin,
An anagram I've been walking past ignorant.
I keep finding more of him in flashes,
kicking a football or standing still,
ball of foot tucked behind the other.

At times he hides behind
knotted expressions and for a while he's gone,
The slight sadness of a raincloud over sun.

A flat friend he is not,
in fact, he's perfectly rounded in
emotions and thoughts. Me, I'm
a line compared to his many sides.

How I'd love to trace the myriad shapes of his soul.
We'd sit cross-legged and map it out,
and mine as well. Two countries at peace.

But then I imagine our hands touching, or worse, our lips in something other than heated conversation, and there it goes,
our friendship in sails,
the wind
sweeping it away,
a dot on the horizon now,
a deep red dot that echoes still.

A fluttering friendship,
A butterfly for a friend.
I'll cling onto this rare thing, and hope.
