Recuperation

First wave of covid, I caught it. Didn’t know I even had it – I thought it was stress and took two weeks leave. When I went back the following Monday, the Bulgarian team hadn’t prepared the monthly invoices and I found myself sitting at the desk, tears streaming down my cheeks. I wasn’t crying, the tears were just silently seeping out. Made an appointment with the GP, got a nurse, he was fab, Troy, who said I had most likely had covid but it was too late to test, and that these symptoms were actually post-viral fatigue. He said, ‘You shouldn’t be working, rest and recuperate, increase your calories, especially from protein (tragically, forgot to reduce the calorie part afterwards), and let your body heal’. Alrighty.
Consequently, I am a recuperation whisperer with much knowledge of how to create a sublime and effective R&R. Sleep and rest are two different things. The body will be obeyed; if you don’t lie down and rest, it will make you, and that can get scary. Surrender to the R&R, and get into/onto bed, sleeping on and off, back to health. Drink plenty water. A good distracting book series, that helps you have a good cry, if you need it, while you’re waiting for sleep to zonk you. The series should be sufficiently fluffy that it doesn’t matter if you forget what you’ve already read. An escape-worthy world-building story, neither misogynistic (Game of Thrones) nor luridly violent (Game of Thrones). Paranormal romances (aren’t they all?) such as JR Ward’s ‘Black Dagger Brotherhood’ series. Or perhaps just binge-watch ‘True Blood’.
When you're poorly, vampire soft porn takes your mind off it.
Have a freezer stocked with portions of homemade stew, mince, soups and ‘Magnum’ ice creams (for medicinal purposes).
Forgot to stop that part too.
