Where Do I Stand On Tony Martin?
The question was posed by one of the 'Three Why's Men' earlier in the week, albeit as some kind of self-important, pompous, 'I'm an intelligent man that knows everything and you are an ignorant oik' provocation on the part of the poser. Since the revelation in this mornings papers regarding Fearon's claim for £100,00 damages I find myself in a frame of mind to answer.
Tony Martin is no more a murderer than you or I, he defended his castle and struck a blow for common sense. In the same circumstances I would probably have done the same. All this bollocks about shooting at fleeing burglars is just that. He was in his own home, minding his own business when two low-life tossers decide to steal his property and maybe even harm him if he tries to stop them. In the absence of a policeman I am the law in my house, and I will dispense it anyway I see fit. If the 'courts' wish to take issue with me after I couldn't care less. Anyone who wishes to put me to the test is welcome to try. Fred Barras would most likely have gone on to be a career thief just like his mentor, so it seems to me that Martin saved him from a life of crime and the rest of us from the dubious pleasure of a night visit from the little scumbag.
Tony Martin made one very serious mistake though. He should have killed Fearon too, he wouldn't have got any more or less porridge for it and he wouldn't be having to tolerate the insult of another court case.
