offensive post

We take offense to your post. Currently Catholics are being portrayed by certain parts of the UK media in derogatory terms. The Catholic chapel do a lot of good work around the world, a lot more good work for human rights than the bbc and the gaurdian newspaper, in South america and all over the world including the UK, it is Catholic priests who are bringing relief to the poor and disspossed. Recently in Columbia the socialist army kidnapped British tourists, who is negoiting their release.

Their are plenty of peadophiles in the UK but do we class the British as a nation of peadophiles?

Their is plenty of ongoing human rights issues in the UK, one of the most serious which involves the UK hospital trusts. Maybe the gaurdian and the bbc should start picking up on this before others outside the UK do.

Hats off to you, Stephen, for coming back bravely and apologising. I also apologise my own remarks (although they were meant tongue in cheek). But massive congratulations for your work with the self-harm section of our society. I'd be interested in hearing more in another thread.

Stephen, I assume you're interested in this debate, otherwise you wouldn't have started the thread. So you've either spent the last two days sleeping off a hangover or have been researching the pupose of question marks in the English language. (generally speaking they follow a question, if that's any help). Anyway, by my reckoning, in the three posts above you've asked 17 questions, which you no doubt want answered. I'll attempt a few: Question: does the bbc and abctales.com realise how many people in the uk it has offended with this post Answer: No Question: does it Answer: I just told you, No. Why don't YOU tell US? Question: how dare you people associate hard working class British Catholics with pedophiles, Answer: We dare to do so because we live in a country that allows us such privilege. Apart from the topic of the Royal Family (their capitals not mine) we are allowed free speech. Question: are you trying to start a civil war in the UK Answer: Not as far as I know it. Are you? Question: how dare you Answer: What? Try to start a civil war? I just told you, we're not. Pay attention, will you? Question: who do you think you are Answer: Well, personally, I "think" I'm Karl Wiggins. As a group - and speaking for the group - we "think" we're contributors to a writers website entitled ABCtales.com. Although I'm forced to mention that you yourself appear to be more confused about who YOU are than the majority of us. Question: see me, i am a transgender catholic, do you think i need to read words that start to associate me with peodophiles, Answer: Only you can answer that one, Stephen. Question: who runs this site Answer: Tony Cook is the managing director. There are various editors and technical assistants. At the moment it appears to be run by a techi fresh out of school techno school. Clear it up any? Question: Do you realise how many catholics their are in the UK who if seen this would take offfence to your thread, Answer: No, but we'd be grateful if you'd enlighten us. Question: who do you work for Answer: Pass. Who do you work for? Question: have you people down south heard of northern ireland and the west coast of scotland and the north of england Answer: Yes. Question: are you trying to start a war in the UK Answer: Didn't we cover this earlier on? Question: do you realise whats happening in south america.... Answer: Regarding what? I don't even realise what's happening in my own town. Question: talk about the human rights issues in the uk within the nhs and self harm, or are you scared, Answer: No, I'm not scared. Are you? If you have any other questions, I'll endeavour to answer as many as possible.

Christianity is not the vision Christ had. The Catholic Church and C of E are, like political parties, the sides of a crap coin in my opinion. Though I would vote for the sally army on account of their uniform. [%sig%]

Karl, I mean the old fashioned uniforms, specially the female headgear which was great. though I don't like wearing hats . In fact once I overheard someone talking about me, criticising my appearance, he said I was frumpy and looked like someone from the Sally Army. Liana - not a trombone - what are the other ones called? Euphonium or something?

I know they're meant to be the exact opposite, but I think the Sally Army women look really sexy in their "frumpy" uniforms, can't wait to see them out collecting in the next few weeks. But have you seen any nurses recently Karl?? My wife went back to nursing recently and the uniform makes her look like she's about to start a jail sentence or do a stint at emptying the council dustbins. [%sig%]

Im really sorry peeps of abctales.com, i was really pissed the other night and started trouble on your threads, i am just a mingy zingy no good troublemaker. For my penance i am going to dress as a women at some point next week, and take the pelters, something i wont enjoy (honestly) I was just waffling on like a trumbone, but hey we all go their sometimes, some of us more than others but hey i am getting better. Just for the record all the above said by me was meant to be humerous, i admit that i am a bit of a bathlic and its just the way it is and i do not really take offence as my religion says FORGIVE THEE WHO dAMN THY NAME AND IT IS IN THIS CONTEXT i offer my olive branch in to the threads. On a positive note i am nearing setting up a self harm group for males in the Glasgow area starting to get a bit of feedback from different sources. One of the things i found hard to accept while getting over this was the way that female mothers who self harm are given absouletly non existant support and because of this their self harm spreads around their immediate family, like a cancer, hurting everyone involved. This is only one of the many stories about self harm. I am still working for and bringing the message home...better rights and understanding for people who self harm. I think the group will revolve around positive word use and instill back in to the minds of people who self harm that they are worth something, they can get better. Where as the current UK NHS diagnoses these people with terms such as borderline persona and sends them back in to the community to try and work out what this means and lets them think they are somewhat inncurable and offers them nothing in the way of support. Its no wonder 65% of people who approach Scottish hospitals with signs of self harm are dead within five years, yet, the World Health Organisation states that self harm and suicide are two different agendas. This says a lot about the current system. No ones to blame but we need to appraoch these agendas with new energy. The times are a hard but i'm getting their. Oh missi, go and stick a carrot up your rear end you banana

I wasn't trying to be insulting or offensive to you Stephen but you come right back with insults of your own. OK, from now on I can assure you there will be absolutely no sympathy or well meant comment from me regarding your pathetic state of mind. Do us all a favour and next time you 'self-harm' make it terminal. Does that make you feel better or justify your wanky remark?

Take care Stephen D. And watch out for those phone boxes.. they follow you around, I find. 'If you don't laugh, you'll cry' ..you said it yourself, mate. Be glad that you live in a country where people CAN mercilessly take the piss out of the pope.. or anyone else for that matter, and not be imprisoned or tortured for it. I know I'd rather have it that way. Hope the hangover isn't/wasn't too rough. [%sig%]

Stephen, your loyalty to the Catholic church is touching...but the church's response to the problem of paedophile priests has been totally disgraceful.... For that reason alone it deserves all the mockery and scorn it receives..... Add to that its mediaeval attitude to AIDS and contraceptives and what you have is an organisation which has no regard for the human rights of the people it supposedly serves...... I recently attended a Catholic function and was appalled at the grovelling, overly reverential way people treated the priest who in this case happened to be a transparently odious and self regarding man....this is surely one of the fundamental faults in the church.... Bad priests can get away with murder because the faithful are blind to their faults and believe they are divine beings..... It's true there are many good priests, but sadly their fine work is being undermined by the evil ones....I'm sorry, Stephen but an organisation's good deeds in certain areas does not excuse its appalling conduct in others....

Nice post goat - i agree. For me, you can add to it the catholic churchs immense wealth - and yes i know the C of E has an immense wealth too - but when i lived in spain many years ago, the sight of the limbless homeless beggars being shooed away from the doors of the catholic church i lived by, was shameful... all that wealth and no soul. Vile.

get back to your essay liana... have to agree with the posts criticising the catholic church, i'm lapsed, ex-altar boy, 2 aunts are nuns, so big catholic family, but despite the "good works" that churches in general do, in general the christian church seems to not want to accept any progress, the way in which a gay bishop split the anglican church (pun intended) and the vicious language employed by many of the bishops who opposed him....

The Catholic church had over 1000 years as one of most powerful institutions in the world. During that time, the church and its priests consistently exploited poor people to maximise their own power and wealth. They may do some 'good works' nowadays but their general baleful contribution to the world community continues almost unabated. The Church's insane policies on abortion and contraception have, do and will continue to cause misery for millions of people across the world. They should be mocked as often and as much as possible, not gratuitously but in response to the serious ongoing negative impacts of their role in the world.

I'm reluctant to sound even a little bit like Ian Paisley whom I personally abhor but I have to agree with Goat and David, the Catholic church has very little to do with biblical christianity, this present pope is not only not infallible but a disaster for any thinking Catholic and the history of both sexual and physical abuse suffered by young Catholics is appalling, and we aren't talking mediaeval here but events in our own lifetimes (well, mine anyway). I'm afraid that a religious body which promotes celibacy at the expense of common sense and natural God-given desires is bound to find a steady stream of perverts aspiring to its priesthood and nunneries (and I'm NOT meaning gay people but those sad specimens who abuse children and the weak-willed). Obviously the vast majority of catholics, whether priests, nuns or ordinary folk, are NOT paedophiles and there are plenty of these people elsewhere but the Catholic church has a long history of concealing its crimes and it's the duty of newspapers and TV to expose such things. Sorry Stephen and we're not getting at you personally I hope but that's how it is. [%sig%]
