This one is telling me i have missing files and wont open word... my laptop wont start properly and is asking for the bleedin boot disk... ALL the seminar i had written to deliver on Tuesday morning is on there, and now is LOST.. grrrrrr.
I need a new PC. Why are these things sent to try us? Do I really have to use a PEN and PAPER?
*feels ill*
So... although my ex husb has a dinky cheapo PC fixing and selling place, I am uninclined for oodles of reasons to go there.. i need to look fdor a new PC. Anyone found any good deals lately? I dont need peripherals, just a decent PC for the lowest amount of money possible.
Sounds weird but John Lewis do some good deals + their customer service is great.
[%sig%]
Aldi were doing a stunning system last week or this week.

good basic systems from £350. click on the Aries range and you can specify your own requirements and order online. Not used them myself yet but am thinking of buying a pc for the kids that will be screamingly fast for gameplaying but without all the crap software most manufacturers bundle on.
Or you can do as I did with this pc last month. Re-format it. It's as good as new except thjat it isn't as fast as the lastest machines, you lose everything on it and it takes ages to re-load drivers, programmes, etc, etc.
By the way L, do you have messenger plus? My kids had downloaded it without my knowledge. I later discovered it comes with built in spyware that lavasoft can't detect. It takes over your browser and you get walloped with pop-ups all day long.
I had a moan at my daughter who then decided to get rid of it herself. Don't know what she did but during the uninstall process she says she was asked to enter a code and WHAM! ... bye bye windows. I spent several days on and off trying to recover the system and various files, but gave up and re-formatted instead.
I write straight to cd disc so my work was safe. Mrs. S was none to pleased when she lost a load of stuff ... that'll teach her not to back up heh heh
by the way, for anybody that does have messenger plus, the spyware is called lop com and although older versions were detectable the one we had wasn't.
here is some info. it certainly seems you should take advice about what to do before trying to remove it, witness my disaster above.
and here's a clickable link for watford electronics, I forgot to do it earlier.
Buy a copy of Micromart or can you view it online? There was a company called Greenleaf doing cheap pc's the other week.
Depends on the spec i suppose, you could try Aria,redstore,e-buyer,novatech,planetmicro and AUT, to mention a few.
Try Dell's refurbished shop online. The deal change, but you can get a a refurbish system with the same warranty as brand new for a substantial discount.
AUT are in Southend (well Shoebury, it's the shitty end of Southend), and I go there all the time. They are as cheap as anywhere I've heard of . Their website is,
Micro Mart is definitely the mag to get, as Flashy mentions above.
Whatever you do, stay away from high street outlets such as PC World, Dixons, The Computer World etc. They charge twice as much for half as much.
I'm bloody sick of this!
anyone know how much space i need on my hard drive to be able to get broadband? does it make any difference, i'm getting a little tired of my dickensian dial up...
The size of your HD has nothing to do with your internet connection, Martin. Your soft-drive is a different matter.
Thanks all... i will look into.
Storms, i have msn 6.... this might explain why i was hammered with the pop ups that i mentioned recently.
Staples are doing 256 ddr ram, 2.4 ghz amd athlon processor, 40 gig Hard Drive, DVD rom/CD writer, 7 in 1 card reader, 17 inch crt monitor plus all the bits you need.
£399.
