I'm Going to Really Love This Idea
My sister, who is quite nuts, has surprisingly come across a really great notion. The idea is that when someone (business colleague, family member, pisshead in the pub) comes up with an idea that you are inclined to reject out of hand, you stop yourself and decide to really love their idea for fifteen minutes.
You take the idea - be it holiday suggestion, decorating plans, business idea, health plan - on board and work it through with enthusiasm for at least fifteen minutes, after which time you may feel differently about it.
You may not, of course, and at this stage you're free to reject the suggestion in the knowledge that you've at least chewed it over fairly to see if it's got legs.
Often we reject ideas foreign to our way of thinking because we either dislike change or sometimes dislike the actual person who's come up with the idea. We may be losing out. This notion of saying to ourselves, "I'm going to really love this idea for fifteen minutes," could pay dividends.
I like it.
